Fuzzy Navel Punch

Hi everyone,

Today was the cast party for the play I was just in: the comedy classic "Noises Off". I played Selsdon for those of you familiar with it (it was also a 1992 film of the same name starring Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve, Marilu Henner, and John Ritter).

I made a Fuzzy Navel Punch for the cast party. I made two pitchers: one with peach Schnapps (DeKuyper Peachtree to be exact), and one without since some members are too young to have alcohol or just don't drink at all. Both versions were hits, I am happy to report :). I browsed recipes online and came up with this.

Fuzzy Navel Punch

Minute Maid Peach Punch, chilled

Bright and Early (or orange juice of choice), chilled

1 16 oz. pkg. frozen sliced unsweetened peaches (4 cups)

2 oranges, thinly sliced

1 cup peach Schnapps (2 if making both pitchers alcoholic)

1 bottle peach drink mixer

In a gallon pitcher, add 2 cups of sliced peaches, one sliced orange, 1 cup peach Schnapps, 1/2 container of Minute Maid Peach Punch, 1/2 bottle of drink mixer and 1/2 container of Bright and Early/orange juice. Repeat for second pitcher (omit Schnapps and add white cranberry-peach cocktail). Stir and serve.

Brad, they're going to miss your food and drinks, almost as much as they'll miss you, I think!

I am going to miss this play so much. It's become quite dear to me, as has the character of Selsdon. Greying my eyebrows and beard and adding my wrinkles was fun :). Going to take a break from doing shows until next season, however. I have done two in a row, and it is very hard work.

The punch is wonderful, with or without the peach Schnapps! Both versions are delicious! Ignore that part with the white cranberry-peach cocktail.

Meyers are the easiest to care for..constantly flowering and fruiting, and very very sweet smelling. Kumquats, though not a true citrus, 'I don't think???' seem to bloom and fruit year round..Very fragrant..Nagami is my favorite.. Ponderosa, though not as free-flowering/fruiting as Meyer's, are #1 as far as looks, huge flowers, and a heavenly scent. Lemons are as large as grapefruit. I was given a beautiful Mandarin from a very nice woman here on GW. We didn't know the species, but fruit is med-large in size, and when in flower, it scents up the room. I love it! My heart goes out to a Meyer's bought at Home Depot for 9.99..I had it over 14 years, growing in the front plant room, producing fruit from the very beginning..Flowers were white with purple tint. Big and fragrant. After getting a small green house, I placed the Meyer's inside that winter. Of all things to go wrong, on one of the coldest nights of the year, the heater went out.. Think I blocked out that night, because I can't recall the number of plants lost..something like 31, including my Meyer's and a beutiful Kumquat, the first plant bought at Briteleaf. typically its not a great idea to amend a planting hole. You encourage the roots to stay in the hole and not spread out into the existing soil. In heavy clay soils you actually create a spot for water to sit and drown the roots. If you do choose to amend I would suggest you do so many feet out from the planting hole. Otherwise just backfill with what you dig out short of the rocks and top dress with a good fertilizer and wood mulch out to the drip line. Wood chips applied every year is an incredible way to build your soils.

I do like peaches, and we have a peach tree in the yard, so I'll have a good supply this summer. We had the biggest crop of peaches last year since we planted it a few years ago. I hope my costume turns out well. My friend (the one who's house where a couple of my high school friends get together at every so often-we haven't done that in forever) is helping me with it. She's great at sewing and better at it than I am lol. My best friend was over one day and he braided some of the wire for me and added a few icy blue acrylic jewels to it (I got them and a pack of white/clear ones at Wal-Mart on clearance one day). Question about punching holes in sides of pots.

I also use these gawdy-awful plastic cups that came with some clearance plants (when they get watered...yeah, it's just a cup of water with a plant in it...you do the math, I'm sure they lose more than they sell but still turn a profit) and punch holes all around with a push pin and put my small Terra cotta pots in them so they can breathe but not as much as being fully exposed to the air. Sorry for the fuzzy picture, I used zoom and couldn't hold my arms/hands steady. But you get the idea.

Oh I'll still go out on Saturdays on workdays to help with the sets and cleaning and such, but I just won't be acting until next season.

I had a few glasses of both, and it's good either way! If you make it, Annie, I think you'll like it as much as my gram's lemonade ;). Without the Schnapps, it is one for family gatherings.

I just might have to make it for my Halloween party this year at the theatre.

What is peach drink mixer? I wonder if you could substitute mango juice, as I always have some of that, but I've not seen peach drink mixer. Is it the same as peach juice? I've always thought that mango juice tasted somewhat like peach juice.

Mango would go great, I think. When I say drink mixer, it's the bottles of flavored liquid drink mix you see in the drink mixers section of the grocery store. This was the kind I used. http://www.webstaurantstore.com/images/products/extra_large/214026/953041.jpg
