What is your fave,for care+fragrance?How many stars for yours?

I was wondering if anyone knew what kind citrus plant gives off the MOST frangrat flowers, abundant might I add and fruits of all.

What is your favorite citrus to grow for fragrance and fruit indoors?

Which one do you find the easiest to care for?

I find on my part, that the limes are stingy in flowers, yet whatever flower it gets, it always turn into fruit. The fruit appear out f nowhere,those sneeky things..

I have a ponderosa lemon that loves to give big abundant flowers and huge fruit, but not very fragrant unless you get up close to it.

Also, my lisbon lemon, I think it flowers but once a year, and what flowers it gets, a very weak fragrance.

My lemon meyer, the fincky one, boy that one can smack a punch when in bloom. TONS of flowers, very sweet fragrance from a mile away and tons of fruit. Probably a favorite for most,and would be mine ifit wasn't so darn finicky to grow indoors.

Then my oro blanco grapefruit. That one is so easy to grow. Always dark green leaves. Never drops a leaf, huge blossom, not abundant though, but intensly fragrant. If it only has 10 blossoms on it, my whole house smells great.

My navel orange...Perfect in every way. Tons of flowers,and fruit. Not finicky, if it gets alot of light that is, and georgous! Especially when I look at it outdoors in the summer. That one smells my whole house up in winter, and all my neighbors yards in the summer. Sweet juicy seedless fruit!

I love them all, but if I was to give a star rating for overall vigor, care for, flower production, frangrance, and fruiting I would rate my "navel orange" a 10!..:-)

In about another three to four weeks my little greenhouse is going to be heavenly for standing in and just breathing. The early blossoms are already opening with the bulk of the buds just starting to swell.

For sheer abundance of flowers my Key limes would probably take first place. Pretty and in large numbers, but only faintly fragrant. The Eureka lemons don't flower so heavily, but they have a wonderful scent to them. Most oranges have a great scent as well, but I don't have any as container plants.

Meyers are the easiest to care for..constantly flowering and fruiting, and very very sweet smelling.

Kumquats, though not a true citrus, 'I don't think???' seem to bloom and fruit year round..Very fragrant..Nagami is my favorite..

Ponderosa, though not as free-flowering/fruiting as Meyer's, are #1 as far as looks, huge flowers, and a heavenly scent. Lemons are as large as grapefruit.

I was given a beautiful Mandarin from a very nice woman here on GW. We didn't know the species, but fruit is med-large in size, and when in flower, it scents up the room. I love it!

My heart goes out to a Meyer's bought at Home Depot for 9.99..I had it over 14 years, growing in the front plant room, producing fruit from the very beginning..Flowers were white with purple tint. Big and fragrant.
After getting a small green house, I placed the Meyer's inside that winter. Of all things to go wrong, on one of the coldest nights of the year, the heater went out..
Think I blocked out that night, because I can't recall the number of plants lost..something like 31, including my Meyer's and a beutiful Kumquat, the first plant bought at Briteleaf.
Anyway, those are my choices..Toni

Some call this egg bind--but no matter what you call it, it is usually caused by a mineral deficiency. 5 mgs of Boron dissolved in 1 gallon of water and served as the only drinking water will solve this condition unless it is a genetic abnormality. Boron tells the body where to utilize calcium properly. Most layer feeds are rich in calcium and vitamin D, vitamin K and magnesium but very little boron. These vitamins/minerals control the bodies absorbs and utilization of calcium within their systems. Boron also lowers cholesterol levels in their eggs when use at 5 mgs/gallon water. Do not increase this level of boron for it will have an opposite effect decreasing egg production and increasing cholesterol levels. I use boron supplementation during the winter and early spring in my laying hens for this is the most stressful period for them.

LL- thanks. I'm not sure what I'll put on the gate. There's not enough room for a rose, so for now I have an allamanda, but it's not hardy here. I've been thinking that when it goes, I'll replace it with a jasmine. I've not been to the cottage garden forum for a while. I need to go check out that thread. professorroush - I am quite embarrassed and am hanging my head low. The red rose in the 2nd picture is (whispering now) a... knockout. The peach rose in the third is the mini Carnival Glass (same fence, different bed). You see, when I started gardening I started with knockouts, moved to other moderns, and finally on to OGRs. (I'm a 'backdoor' convert.) My OGRs are quite small and I have no "garden" pictures of them yet. Still explaining....I never SP (if it lives, it stays), but as my moderns and HTs pass on, I'm replacing them with mainly OGRs. Well, I hope everyone forgives me for posting a knockout on the Antique Forum! I didn't think about it until too late! (Walking away sheepishly now.)

Trevor's point is well taken and sounds like he's got great suggestions for much improved ventilation at modest extra cost. But...to restate, a liner that is narrower than the range, and only 15'' deep is way short of adequate. Trevor and ya think point out that the hood surround itself can function as the actual capture area, with the liner acting more as the conduit out for the smoke. That's only partially true. First, realize that the vertical walls of the hood liner will create "dead spaces" inside the hood surround but outside the walls of the liner. For these areas to be vented out, smoke would have to be drawn first downwards to clear the bottom of the liner, then back up through the duct. Since smoke etc naturally want to rise, that's asking a lot and I think you'll find stagnant air and fumes in those areas. More importantly, the area inside the surround not covered by the liner will have no baffles or filters to collect grease. The result is over time there will be a truly yucky buildup of grease and nastiness in the areas of the hood surround not covered by the liner. These will be next to impossible to reach to clean, and if it's a wood liner, it will never come fully clean anyway. Bleah! I'll say it again: if you are going to do a custom hood surround, far and away the best option is to get a custom hood liner that will fit as close to flush with the surround as is possible. I'd also insist on a surround that is at least 24'' deep, as 15'' is just too shallow to be effective. Several companies dedicated to hood production can do exactly that, it's what we did with Modern Aire and is I think the optimal solution.

Probably should mention the specs on the carpet samples I like: Floorcraft Tigressa 4 star nylon at 53 oz Meditate Stainmaster 5 star 46 oz Riverfest Plus II Stainmaster 46 oz Platinum Plus Expressive II from HD 68 oz The Tigressa comes in 15' so I'd have no seam. Kids like the Riverfest a lot because it's so soft.
