Flooring ideas for people who don't like tiles, please -

Renovating a late Victorian stone farmhouse, changing a bedroom into a 4-piece bathroom. The plumber has ok'd the plumbing, and we've figured out roughly where the fixtures will go, so now I've got to go shopping!

The original pine floors are still there underneath shiny prefinished 90s oak and early C20 oilcloth, and they look pretty good. We reckon they'll just need patching and sanding, and then the plan is to re-paint them. And then use plenty of non-slip bathmats.

Will this be OK? Two adults, no kids, we plan to be in this house for a while. The contractor had suggested cork, but will it be any better than old painted pine? Or worse? Any other suggestions?

Thanks! I can see I'm going to be back here a lot asking questions. :)
