Engineered flooring - 'ghosting' issues?

We had an engineered floor installed in our foyer 15+ years ago. From the very beginning, we have had a 'ghosting' issue. I say ghosting, because I'm not sure what else to call it and I have never been able to find out much information about it. It is hard to describe, but depending on the light, you can see the imprints of the layers under the laminate. The issue does seem worse in the winter. We have high-humidity summers and a whole-house humidifier installed on the furnace for winters. Is this a common thing for engineered floors?

Photos would be required to offer any suggestions. Are you describing "engineered hardwood" that is layers of REAL WOOD (the surface being 1-6 mm thick)? Or are you describing "laminate" (a word you used in your description)?

I would check to see how thick your wear layer is. If it is SOOO thin that you can see the layers of OTHER wood underneath, then it is probably due to the lack of "thickness" on the wear layer.

Photos if you can. And let us know if you are talking about engineered hardwood or laminate...you've mixed the wording a little.

If you have "high humidity" summers - what are you doing for dehumidifying in summer? Is the AC keeping everything around 45% during the summer? And what level is the humidifier keeping things during the winter? Also 45% of just barely 35%?

1. Not normal at all. I have 3 seasons on mine and it has always idled very smooth. This is one of the smoothest and quietest small engines I ever owned. I own a couple Honda engines GX models that are not as smooth. 2. Not normal mines transitions very smooth from low to high idle. I only idle it down when shutting it down and 10-20 sec during warm up. 3. Slight drop when engaging PTO but remains smooth and nowhere close to stalling. To prevent the drop in RPM while engaging I ease the PTO on and you will not have any issue. I would drop it off to them and tell the dealer to make it right. It may have sat on his floor all winter and now the carb is varnished over from bad fuel or other fuel/carb issues. Have him start another one on the floor.

wood products glued vs floated seldom have the hollow tinny sound of laminates. Of course the floor has to be leveled there are specific requirements most mfctrs put in the instructions. Most hardwoods I wouldn't consider 'slippery'. You can put wood anywhere but understand that in a moisture area if you have a plumbing leak you will have an insurance claim if it gets too wet. The good news is you can replace just the boards that get damaged so its a good idea to keep some extra wood around for repairs down the road.

I have vinyl plank with huge dogs in my walk out basement where they have free access to a large dog run it has been in for 11 yrs and still looks awesome. We have a laminate on our main floor that looks like slate and has also stood up to the brats for 11 yrs there is no way wood could have handled all that abuse. IMO laminate or vinyl plank in good condition is better than scratched up wood floor that would have to be refinished before sale. We now have a great pyrenees as our 2 old dogs have passed away and he really is rough on floors , no wood could possibly stand up to him.The pic is the laminate floor and the old dogs

Shortest @ 13" and longest @ 48". 2/3 of the bundle is 24" and longer.
