Comments (19)For the short time I was there, I had a great time with sisters. Annies sauerbraten was dead on and even Emma loved it. And the corned beef hash for breakfast with some wonderful muffins really hit the spot before we had to leave. As most of you know, Dad has dementia and sort of freaked on on me and wanted to go home to his own environment. We drove home through rain, sunshine, more rain with a rainbow and some sleet! Emma had a blast, playing with Molly and making a new BFF in Spark. Shocked me as she never seemed to take to cats, but this guy is so loving and laid back. He had no fear of Emma and I think that did the trick. The two playing had us laughing repeatedly. That boy is always welcome here. I have has a few says to get Emma back into her regular food as Annie spoils her. She sure loved the saurebraten and hash! And let's not forget the chicken treats! I am so sad that I missed the balance of the weekend. I have missed my sisters and brother Elery. He fits right in with us crazy females. Isla, some day I will take you up on the offer. Dcarch, wait till those anthropologist find out that we referred to each other as potential ax murderers. Lars, a Black Forest torte without the Kirschwasser is just chocolate cake with cherry pie filling. Sharon, you will not suffer in all this cooking of great foods. Annie, not last, thank you for everything. You fill my heart....See MoreWhat's For Dinner - #367
Comments (110)Annie, I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your venison burritos. Restricted diets can be so hard. DH has been told by his doc he needs to lay off carbs and cut his quantities back (hard for him to do with fast/takeout food). He’s been doing modestly well since but is always hungry now. A minimum of 2+ months to go before I can get him back on track with healthier home cooking. Going to embarrass myself… I realize I’m tired, my brain is overwhelmed right now with other things… I literally cried with happiness! Yes, I’m a happy-crier : ) Ok, no more blubbering… Monty_Abby… welcome : ) : ) : ) Ah!!! Sourdough rye??!! Some people can do it all! I made rye a few times and called it quits (brick dense, hard, taste was off). Yours is perfection. And it’s sourdough. Heavens. While the platter looks wonderful (capers, fresh cracked pepper, salmon… oh my), I’m fixated on the bread. Hopefully, someday, I can tackle sourdough… and I’d love to try sourdough rye! I’m hoping you’ll guide me as I flounder! Uhm… I found a recipe on a blog I love, but the sourdough uses spring water. May filtered water be used instead? If not, is the spring water bottled? (Making notes for not too distant future baking). Here? We ‘enjoyed’ tv dinners. Night before was Taco Bell. Enough said....See MoreWhat's for Dinner #373
Comments (100)Haven't been here in, well, forever! Sick, still sick. Strep throat that turned into a cold, and I sound like a kid with croup. Fever, et al. Been sick for 2 weeks and I'm just so over it. DH has a sore throat but to hear him, he's dying. Sleevendog, let's make a pact: Next time your DH goes kimchi coo-coo, and mine gets a little sore throat, let's pack them in boxes and put them in storage. Split the cost? ; ) Jasdip, your tuna casserole looks a zillion times better than mine. Love tuna casserole, and yes, Annie, my mom made the same as yours! I also love the addition of peas. And Penne : ) Your pork chop and slaw sammie looks and sounds good. I know I'd like it! Beautiful snow Annie! Thanks for the share : ) We got some too but I neglected to take photos. I'd still like to make pane bianco someday. Yours is always so pretty. Basil is dead now, and no sundried tomatoes to be found here. I love collard greens, and your butternut squash is such a brilliant yellow... ah, to have such produce from your own garden... : ) Sleevendog, I laughed at the full pot of chili, but that is never a bad thing! Chili eaters here, big time. Still wanting to start micro greens, but still working on the house and no room yet. You've been cooking up a storm! And whenever I look at your dishes, I always feel like I don't eat healthy enough : ) Your chicken is mouthwateringly gorgeous. Neely, that pizza tops my list. What I wouldn't give for a bite. Or several. I like the mustard sauce on your salmon (a little pink inside is perfect). And a shout-out to compumom! Cooking sporadically because of illness (and I need to get to the grocery store, fever or not). But have been cooking... Ah, the ever-present so utterly easy roasted chicken (with the other stuff) Got hungry for a chuck roast after seeing so many of Jasdip's wonderful looking roasts. No rare here, but cooked forever, until falling apart. Of course I had to make yorkshire pudding. Pad Thai Chicken. While re-freshing my herbs and spices, I bought several blends from Penzey's and the Spice House. Been having fun with them. Their taco blend was perfect for my 'quesadilla's'. Shredded pork, red bell pepper, onion, hoisin, and seasonings... topped with cheese, folded into a packet, and fried in the cast iron. Goodies on top. Re-visited Halloween chili with this boule. This is the mystery plant from my garden - half the leaves would have cooked down and been plenty for us. Brought it in, washed it, then lost my nerve. Didn't cook the mystery plant. LOL! More fun with spices - used 3 different blends plus some others that should never have gone together, but the 'fried potatoes' were quite good. DH's favorite. Made a 'mock' pizza to go with them. A hearty cold-night meal. Nothing to write home about though. No more allowed......See MoreFestive Food Floof! Christmas!
Comments (45)I managed to do everything I planned to do despite having a bad reaction to the latest round of chemo on the 20th. We went back to our home in the country and I was feeling relatively OK the next day so I did some prep for cooking, making the sausagemeat stuffing for the turkey and freezing it. I had made pumpkin pies and brownies before we went down to the city for the treatment and put them into the freezer in our unit there. I was glad that I did as I felt dreadful on the Friday and Saturday. I was a little better on the Saturday so I continued with prepping, chopping bread cubes and celery and onions etc for the bread stuffing, then we had to pack it all up and head down to the city again as DD and her little family were arriving at the airport in the early evening. We were lending them DH’s car so at least he had to be there. It was touch and go as to whether I would be up to driving my car down (as opposed to DH’s sister bringing him back to the country and then him driving both of us in my car) but through sheer stubbornness I made it :-). Sunday morning I felt almost human again so I put the ham I had pre-studded with cloves into the oven and basted it with a mix of orange juice, cranberry sauce, honey and mustard at regular intervals. It turned out delicious and moist :-) As it happened I didn’t need to bring salads so I made the cheesecake I had planned to make and that was me done for the day. We took the ham and the desserts and all our presents to my BIL’s place and had a great evening with the whole extended family and then divvied up leftovers. I gave away a fair amount of ham, which was fine with me as I had bought a large one just for the purpose. Christmas morning I made the bread stuffing then stuffed the turkey buffe with it then sealed it in with the sausagemeat stuffing. We took that, the remaining ham and a pumpkin pie to the holiday apartment where DD is staying. Her DH made waffles with fresh fruit and maple syrup for brunch, then we played with DGS and opened presents while the turkey roasted along with the potatoes. After a while DD made an appetiser of brie wedges coated in panko and fried, along with cranberry sauce and rocket salad. Then we had the turkey, ham, green beans with prosciutto, roasted Dutch carrots, cauliflower cheese, hasselback potatoes, bread sauce and gravy and big puffy mini Yorkshire puddings (made by DSIL), followed by pumpkin pie at a decent interval. It was a lovely low key day and we had a great time with DD, DSIL and DGS, who is the most delightful baby 🥰...See More- 9 years ago
