You don't need a program, just a bit of math and maybe paper and pencil.

Go to the stone shop where it was fabricated. My bet is the contractor, simply doesn't want to be bothered, or used the "remnant" from your kitchen somewhere else. Perhaps his own home. But nobody can answer unless you photo and dimension your tops. Perimeter? Island etc ?? And did you buy the entire slab? If not, it is the property of others involved.....even the fabricator if he planned on only a portion, and a chunk left for something else /another customer. It could very well be all gone in that scenario.

I feel the fabricator is being dishonest with how much is left over but I can't go to the stone shop. I have no idea where it is. A photo won't look good as it's covered in cardboard. Maybe I can give the basics and a diagram. Picture a "U" shaped kitchen with the range in the middle of the back. The two countertops are "L" shaped with the range between the short leg.

I paid for the cost of the slab in the cost of the entire remodel to the GC. Knowing that there were sure to be remnants, it was originally going to be used behind the range (it's in the contract). That changed to glass tile. So if he was going to use it behind a range, he should have enough for a window sill. Joe- isn't $400 a lot for a 6"x34" piece of Caesarstone? Sorry but I've paid enough for this remodel already. :)

Are the seams 45 degrees or straight? How much of an edge was put on it? Did this include backsplash? It's conceivable to me that there wasn't a 34" piece left.

Not sure where the seams are other than the one for the right "L" which connects the long side with the short side. Left "L" is all one piece. One seam as far as I know. Edge detail was square or mitred. No backsplash. Just countertop.

Thanks for making my point. That's exactly what your fabricator knows you're going to say and he doesn't want to hear it. It's easier to blow you off.

It's one thing to put a sill into a job, it's another to add it. He's got another trip to template, he's got to set up to profile the edge, it's another whole trip just for a quick installation, so yeah, $400.00 for a change order isn't out of line.

Some of the repairs I do are $3,200.00 per square foot, yet remain the best value.

The width of the slab is enough to cut two standard counter runs with edge detail. When the fabricator cut the L from one piece, there is a rectangle of waste created 24 x ? that isn't large enough for your purpose, That leaves plus or minus 70" of standard run counter remaining. The only way you get a 34" piece left is if you don't use 34" of the remaining 70 inches or if you had a cut out that long.

You need to measure to figure out the rest. I really can't tell what's going on in that drawing. One thing I don't like about 2020 is trying to get the measures readable at small formats. Understand that counter fabrication is like carpet and tile, you almost always have at least a 10% waste factor.

Joe is right, so Cabinetix. Get the address, go to the fabricator, dig for a scrap, and be prepared with you own template, and to sign off on the result of your own template, and to install it yourself, and to PAY for the cut and polish. And to wait until they get around to it, after you have paid upfront, no less than 200 bucks and four weeks if the spirit moves them. Then go pick it up and install it. Not fair? Yeah....... nothing is.. And there still may be none available.

Specify all your needs upfront, and when you make a change,put it in writing,and specify the "leftover" direction...........and etc. The contract said nothing about the "remains" I am sure.

Well, the remnant has appeared without out me having to bribe/pay the fabricator $3000 per SF but I really wanted to write that check, trust me. Now I do have to live with a seam in the middle but I'm ok with it. Thanks for all the replies.
