MSI quartz sample does not match counter tops

What are our options if our quartz countertop (not yet installed) doesn't match the samples?

My wife and I just saw our completed MSI Romano White (from their quartz line) counter tops. Fortunately, they have not been installed yet. The samples we used (four pieces from two separate dealers) to make the decision were all a cream color and had almost no black veining. The delivered countertop has heavy veining and is a white color. We purchased our cabinets from the same dealer, to match the color of the samples. I don't understand how the color and design is so far off, especially since quartz is man made.

For fun, we tried MSI's image search based off of three photos of the delivered countertop, and not once did Romano White appear in the top 12 results. Blanca Arabescato appeared in the top 3 all three times.

Picture of the sample (we have 3 of the samples still, one we returned to store). We have a bunch of pictures of samples in different lights.

Thynes! Thanks so much for giving me the exact name and number for your tile. I had seen your expanded kitchen post and couldn't find the exact tile. You have such a lovely kitchen, so warm and welcoming and the tile really makes a statement. I also see they only have one USA distributor. Your tile in your kitchen looks totally different than on the website..were you able to get a sample or see the tile in a store? I've sent Saltillo an email as well..so we shall see. Has anyone used MSI Calacatta Botanica Quartz for kitchen countertops?

Our painter has done many homes' cabinets. They use a semi-gloss and it looks great. Just not sure how long-lasting it will be. (We will probably sell in 5 years.). The veining on the Botanica is pretty light. The older version of it - when it was made in China - was much darker.

Then there is this article - that had me leaning toward quartzite ... http://usenaturalstone.org/definitive-guide-quartzite/ The Houzz article above has me leaning towards Quartz. : ) I am of the opinion that that are good features in both. Quartzite can take heat and you cannot set a hot pot on Quartz. Quartz does not stain as bad as Quartzite since Quartzite is a natural stone. Quartzite has to be sealed. I don't think Quartz does. I am thinking it is a toss up The one thing I am worried about is the part about the citrus and etching Quartz I have read a lot about. I use lemons a lot and we all cook around our island so I don't have full control of watching it all the time. . I would love to hear opinions from folks who have either. Have you had any issues with either choice?

Those counters are going to look muddy and green brown if you put any cold white or gray next to them. Because they are green brown, with yellow gray hints. And your white or gray will look stark and blue next to any of that. They aren’t cold. They’re warm, with a yellow-brown green-gray base. You need warm colors, like the wood cabinets that you already have. Warm whites. Warm browns with grey hints, like the counters. There’s absolutely no point in painting over those wood cabinets that are right on trend. Wood is back, big time. No point in going with clashing cold gray death anything either. Thats over and done with and even the souvenir T shirt is in the goodwill donate bag. Any of these colors, pulled from the stone, would be fine on the walls. And leave the cabinets alone.

Thanks Sammy and JuneKnow. They have already cut the countertop (they came to install it, but one of the cabinets is damaged and is getting replaced first...in some ways we were lucky that we got to see it before the install). I am hoping the issue is they did the wrong mix/quartz, ie the Montclair White. It's shocking how different both design and color are from the sample. I'd expect that with granite, not quartz. The back of the samples say there may be "slight variation", but is representative of color and material. We've paid 50% at this point. Ugh. Missing having a kitchen sink!

I can't tell from the pics, but do your samples have any dark blue in them? (you said black but on my monitor I see dark blue streaks). Reason I'm asking is I thought I've read that if the samples are old they can look different than what you get because over time the resin yellows. So if your samples have some of the dark streaking, it's a possibility that is the reason for the difference. Just a thought.

Good point mxk3. However, even looking at the picture of samples that Sammy posted, the Romano White has a definite cream color compared to the top and the third one. The countertop that was brought to us is white, not that cream color. That's why I'm hoping they just did the wrong order (been several communication issues between fabricator and the dealer we ordered from). RE: black v blue, I'll take more pics in different light.
