Comments (36)GoRavens.... 1. Ab.so.lute.ly! love the stones shown on the MotW website. I'm more partial to the cooler palate but both are examples are spectacular. 2. The stone on CL, I like it also, but unless you can use the greater majority of the slab in one piece (because of the way the colors 'zone') then I think you will have a slightly minimized wow factor. 3. I've looked at similar stones but for an accent wall in a walk-in shower. I know....huge overkill...and way out of my budget. But a girl can dream right? 4. For me, the stone screams contemporary so as such, I would want to see it in a more contemporary/modern/euro sort of kitchen design. 5. I would like to see it be a focal point piece for use on an island or as a backsplash behind the cooktop, making sure it was beautifully lit regardless of the location. So there is my 2.5-cents worth of feedback. Pepper ~ Granite installed yesterday. :-)...See MoreWood Floors AND Wood Countertops? Too much wood?
Comments (9)Take a look at Pirula's kitchen in the Finished Kitchen Blog--link below. She has slab cherry counters and wood floors, and her kitchen is gorgeous! Her counters and floor don't match exactly, but they look great together. (Dianalo is right about tones needing to match, I think.) Her counters were the inspiration for ours, although ours are oak. Do you have samples of the floor and counter you're thinking about? If the samples look good together, then I think you're OK. Comments (14)We agree with much of what was said so far, and would definitely suggest a counter made from Polished Carrera Quartz. It looks very much like marble, but is low-maintenance and stain-resistant. As another project idea (and something that would widen your countertop possibilities), painting your cabinets a lighter color could be helpful. I know you said you just refinished them (and they look very nice!), but painting them a lighter and brighter color may still be worth considering at some point....See MoreToo Matchy matchy? Comments (4)Designers who frequent this site pretty much agree that the band of tile or even a decorative tile in a niche are out of fashion. They are recommending using one tile for your floor , a second one for your shower and maybe a tile similar to the room tile, but smaller, for the shower floor. Shower floors are usually done with small tiles for traction and for an easier slope. If your home is not a period home, it also seems that fewer people are using a mosaic as a room floor, but, of course, your own preference is most important. Before you decide on a marble tile for inside your shower, though, please do a search on the Bathroom forum page and read up on all the problems that can come with that. I got a larger mosaic basket weave in porcelain from The Tile Shop for my half bath. It has small light gray veining in it, though it is hard to see. It was called Delray...See MoreJill
