Kitchen Design: 8 Ways with Waterfall Counters
Lily Gahagan
December 2, 2010
Waterfall counters (also known as risers) have been popping up in kitchens all over the place, and I for one couldn't be happier with the trend. When extended to the floor, almost any countertop material instantly looks more modern and sleek. Take some tips from these rooms and keep the style in mind for your next kitchen or bathroom update.
Waterfall counters needn’t be relegated to strictly modern spaces. The mix of contemporary and traditional elements in this kitchen work together fluidly to give the room a timeless appeal.

What is the name of the white backsplash tile in the first picture with the mixed dark/white cabinetry?
Yes you can certainly incorporate butcher block on an island with solid surface counter tops. This can even help you if your slab is not large enough to cover the whole top. If you do this I recommend raising or lowering the wood top to avoid an awkward seam.
