Should I bother matching SW color to BM Aura?
Comments (7)Within a few years, many more paint companies' colorants will be "Proprietary". (In way, they are all proprietary now, because every co. has slightly different versions/colors of their colorants) I've been at an ACE for almost a decade now. We don't have BM by choice. We've got C2 for our high-end line and haven't looked back! Like BMs' upper lines, C2 has more than 12 colorants available to match colors from other lines (16 available). So yes....it's much easier to match INTO a paintline that uses more colorants. Going the OTHER direction RARELY works, and is usually optically impossible. A color made with 6 or 7 colorants (some that are high-strength too...) is technically impossible to match into a company that only has 10 or 11 colorants. Example: By store policy, we don't match C2 colors into ACE. There's a reason for that! Faron...See MoreWhich BM paint color is similar to SW Dover White?
Comments (7)Thanks, mreen, I'll try that one. I actually went to another local store that sells BM today and the salesperson was more helpful. He checked in the computer and said Arcadia White showed as a close match to Dover White. It looked pretty yellow on the card though and of course I forgot to bring my SW color cards with me to compare. I did get a sample of Mascarpone because it looked creamy enough to complement the antique white trim but hopefully not so yellow that it would make my mauve undertone granite counters look more pink. I also got a sample of White Dove. I think it might be too light for my kitchen cabinets but it looked really nice against the antique white. It also had gray in it that should work with my slate floors and grayish tan counter. Maybe this is a white that works with both warm and cool colors?...See MoreWhat SW or BM color would be close to this exterior color?
Comments (4)Agree completely with above... The home looks just a pinch off white... does it lean gray... perhaps you took it from a google search and are not sure. Aesthetic White by SW is the first thing that comes to mind. Again, as mentioned above it's all about VERY hard to pick a color with monitors changing colors for those helping with suggestions....... sampling is your best option. Aesthetic White by Sw which I've used a lot is more white (has slight tan undertones by day) then as light dims the hue changes to an ever so slight gray. Yes, you need to sample. This brick home was painting Aesthetic White..... If you look at swatches on line of the color it looks light tan on a paper swatch or example of the color. It's not a light tan in person.... just has a tan undertone and falls fairly true until light dims and again.. a pinch gray. The undertones of gray are blue, green, violet and taupe....See MoreSW White Trim color for BM Ashwood or BM Halo
Comments (21)if I am seeing yellow or seeing more gray and the more gray the more blue or green the color appears. ..... to you. That's the actual color appearance according to your color acuity which is defined by the context your viewing the color and the lighting where YOU are. Some people would describe how those colors actually look to them the same as you - they would agree. But some won't. Because they're viewing the colors in a different context and lighting than you. For example, comparing Extra White or Rhinestone to Lily White makes it easy to see why they belong to the Green-Yellow and Green hue families respectively. In context of a color that is factually blue, they are unlikely to look blue. We have to leave room for how other people see color in their actual space - which is different from you. Acknowledging that actual color perception is different from factual color, not only leaves room for everyone's perception of color but it also provides an elastic framework to manage the fact that color appearance is not static. How Jennifer sees color is actual color. It's a real. A completely validate-able and worthy of acknowledgement thing. LCh is the factual color framework we use to manage the diversity in color acuity person to person, context to context, lighting scenario to lighting scenario....See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
