Avocado Tree Help

I started 2 trees from seed. One is doing amazing, but this one has these brown spots on the leaves. Do you know what it is? Should I just cut off those leaves. Both trees are still in pots as they are still small.

Ginger, it looks to me that the soil is too wet. If it is outside and with the daily showers, did not have a chance to dry out. One of the most common problems in avocados is root rot. Try to move the pot to a drier place and wait to water till the mix is dry. Probably the leaves will fall by themselves, the brown is all the way up. If it does not get better, it might be a fungal problem.

Totally agree with Silvia. Avocados hate having wet roots. I lost my huge Avocado due to a water leak underground which kept the roots wet.

Even though your plants are small, they would do better in the ground where the water can drain away.

A cup of fertilizer at planting, depending on type, could be part of the issue. I apply little or none at planting. If it is a salty type fertilizer that can burn the roots. That said your tree doesn't look too bad. Keep the soil moist not wet. And if you haven't watered enough since fertilizing to run water out the bottom, do that to remove excess salts. But don't drown the plant in an attempt to rescue it. A couple good flushings is enough. There are other possible causes: Too wet, too dry, soil that doesn't drain and others I may not be aware of related to avocado.

The compost would probably be fine. Where do you live? If the nights do not get colder than 38-40*F, than yes, I'd put it outside. Since it's been inside though, introduce it to the sun slowly. Put it in the shade for a few days first, then a few hours in the sun, back to the shade and so on, until after about a week or two, it's all the way into the sun. And for what it's worth, it did look like not enough water to me, but it's best to first stick a long dowel like a wooden chopstick into the soil before watering to see if the soil is wet, damp, or dry, at the top and at the bottom of the pot.
