Cabinet installation needs a creative fix
Comments (14)This looks like a case of form over function. It certainly looks nice but half of the detergent drawer is non-functional and how do you keep the washer's door ajar to let it air out? Anyway, removing the small clip that prevents the drawer from falling out let's you pull the drawer out by about another inch. I just tried it. Alternatively, you can add powdered detergent to the drum (near the front edge) before adding laundry. Quote from a recent Whirlpool user manual: "Oxi-type boosters or color-safe bleach can be added to the drum prior to adding laundry." If you must use a liquid detergent... go for Pods. As far as softener is concerned. I'd either use dryer sheets or fill softener into a bottle with a small spout (empty JetDry bottle or similar) so it's easier to aim at the dispenser. Comments (7)I'd try wood putty in the damaged sections, then sand the whole door to get the varnish off. Luan doors still have those little grooves when you paint. I'd see if I could find some thick stuff to coat the door with, maybe some kind of gesso. Gesso is a thick primer artists use to pretreat canvas. I've read it's also used to prepare wood for ultra smooth finishes, the kind you see in Japanese enameled furniture. After some good prep I'd paint the door. You might want to give the paint an extra coating of poly for more protection. I'm mentioning that because it just happened to come up in a discussion of painted table tops for use in a kitchen. I just remembered you said the bathroom was painted sort of "beachy". If I were faced with this door dilemma, I think I'd try a simple beach scene on the door, sand, water, sky, beach umbrella. It doesn't have to be fancy, you might be able to find stensils for stuff. The idea of doing a painting on the door comes to be because no matter how well you putty, sand and paint, you'll still see the irregularities in the door. A picture or faux finish would hide them. On the other hand if you had to do all that and didn't feel like spending that much effort you might start looking at door prices or wondering "There's got to be another way"....See MoreFix the inside or fix the outside dilemma...
Comments (45)Loved #2, but no doubt you'll end up with something you love even more. We had our heart set on a house that was a foreclosure. Even got friendly with the next door neighbor and gave our number so she could call us as soon as the house was put on the market. She called the minute the sign went up outside and we put in the very 1st offer, and the bank told our realtor it was a good offer (and all cash at that) and we would be getting the house. Well it turned into a bidding war and we also couldn't keep up. We were heartbroken. But within 2 months we found our current home, which turned out to be even better and was a price we could afford....See MoreBathroom Door Dilemma
Comments (6)Relocate the electrical to just outside the master bath., and swing the door (To Which You Can Add Trim, or you order a custom door at a near lumber yard ) in the opposite direction. The switch outside the bath? Not really a huge deal. There's nothing wrong with a hollow core door. Ninety percent of the highest end of new build does not have solid core doors. You're going to paint it....See MoreKari Miller
