Comments (8)I really want to try these but I just don't think they are "green" enough. Sun & Earth makes all natural dryer sheets that are biodegradable in less than 30 days!! They are available in unscented and orange. I tried the orange and though they smelled wonderful in the box, no scent was left on my clothing. They seemed to work ok for static but I didn't notice any extra softness. My favorite solution is Ecos laundry detergent because it has a built in soy based fabric softener. My clothes come out of the dryer fresh and soft without my needing to add a liquid fabric softener or dryer sheets! This is more economical for me and better for the environment. I really like the Magnolia & Lilly scented Ecos detergent. It has a super light, fresh scent that is just slightly detectable when my clothes come out of the dryer. It's perfect for my whole family's sensitive skin....See MoreArm & Hammer baking soda?
Comments (9)I have used A & H baking soda in the wash for years, with great results. It doubles the whitening power of liquid chlorine bleach, which means I can use half the recommended 'dosage' of bleach when I wash really dirty white clothes and towels. I also use baking soda on my guys' stinky clothes they wear for outdoors work. It does a great job of deodorizing them. I have noticed it also softens water, which should be a boon for those who live in hard-water areas. Overall, it's a great detergent cleaning booster -- the most inexpensive I can think of. I buy it at a local warehouse store in huge plastic, resealable bags which last several months. (I also use it for other things besides laundry.)...See MoreArm & Hammer Ultra Power Packs 4 in 1 Detergent
Comments (36)Sparky, did you read one of my other posts where I said I have a tabelspoon and a shot glass ready for measuring? Did you think I was measuring detergent with a shot glass? Haha...just kidding ..but I probably will become flustered. I did use the A&H paks in my roper and with the hard agitation not a bubble. Before I wash a load I'm running the sheets thru with no detergent I want to see how much detergent residue I've been sleeping with..and you know I'm gonna equate it with dirty sheets. Lol. I don't think there will be much residue in the sheets I'm very picky about the bedding, but I'm prepared to be shocked....See MoreArm and Hammer
Comments (22)Several months ago I was at my sons home and helped fold a load of towels, they smelled strongly of detergent and were stiff. It was Obvious they had been overdosed with detergent. when I explained to daughter in law she let me take the towels home to * work on lol. First load I ran thru a hot wash with nothing added, there was a ton of suds I couldn't believe probably 3 inches...it took the wash and 3 rinses to get clear water. The second load I added stpp to the hot wash, again tons of suds, but 1st rinse was clear.I almost always have better rinsing if I use stpp in the wash cycle. Stpp does more than soften water it binds up all the mineral deposits, soap, detergent ect.. and keeps it from redepositing on clothing. You do use less detergent when using stpp as it makes the detergent work harder. Some people that have suds issues when using stpp is probably because they are using the same amount of detergent as they did without stpp. Its really trial and error when you first start using the stpp.I've found the best method is premixing, I think it was sudsmaster over at AW site that recommends 1 part stpp to 2 parts detergent by weight..so I add 2 pounds detergent to 1 pound stpp, stir it up or shake it up. This formula tends to cause less detergent overdosing, however you can't premixwith lliquid detergent, so you do have to add both separately being careful to use less detergent than you would without stpp, i'd start with 1/2 the usual amount of detergent. About towels and stpp, lol..be sure to use less detergent with the stpp and you should have no rinsing issues and softer towels.I should tell you since stpp strips detergent residue out of clothing when you first use it, even using less detergent you may have more suds than you like if the clothing has built up detergent. Check out amazon they have a 2 pound bag of stpp with free shipping for under 13 dollars....See Moremamapinky0
