Quartzite Countertop Honed/Polished + backsplash/paint question
Comments (38)Does anyone have any updates about the honed quartz? I was looking at calcatta vicenza in matte ( honed) because when i went to MSI in Norwood, MA, I found that the matte wasn't as busy of a pattern and it was a lighter, more soothing design. After reading these reviews i'm nervous about the honed but I do like it better than polished, and I find that polished is more of an ivory and the matte is more of a white. Please help! I'm meeting tonight with the contractor....See Morehoned or matte countertop suggestions
Comments (7)Why thanks Angie!! Here's a pic of it brand new and oiled: And here's one I just took to show you it unoiled and after a year of major abuse. I probably haven't oiled it in a month or so and I can guarantee you I an a very frequent cook/baker who puts screaming hot pans directly on the soapstone. We love it both ways and every way in between. I usually oil it when we're having people over and I marvel at the sea glass colored inclusions. They pop more when waxed. Then as it fades I start thinking... no... I like it this way best. When faded awhile, the green isn't as vibrant but all these mica like inclusions glimmer. It reminds me of an old pair of faded stonewashed jeans. It is such an amazing counter surface. ESPECIALLY, for someone like me who does not approach cooking tasks delicately....See MoreCountertops - Honing White Grante / Quartzite & Care of Pietra
Comments (5)Our choices are very similar to yours. We are doing a polished white quarzite (Namibia Sky) which looks like marble, on our island. We were going to use Pietra Cardosa on our perimeter counters but, have friends they have quite a few dings and stains on theirs. We switched to honed Balsaltina which is a solid grey stone (we love the look with our quartzite). Both of our final choices did very well when I tested everything under the sun (and leaving on overnight). In Italy honed Basaltina and polished Marble are commonly paired together. They will be installed next week, so I will try to post pictures....See MoreHoned marble countertops 3 years later? Photos? Experience?
Comments (50)Hi again rinskin, Go to the second link I sent you and then click on some of the links that branch out from that. These are all designer/bloggers and they all recommend honed AND some are getting them rehoned from time to time. One designer said she bought hers honed but wants them honed again for an even more matte finish. They all talk about living with marble and the fact that it will etch and that is a part of its beauty....if you love marble. If you prefer the pristine look and glossiness, go with quartzite or polished granite. It sounds like you want the look of honed marble. Don't be afraid, come over to the dark side....lol ;)...See More- 6 years ago
