Proper response to housewarming gift
Comments (9)DS and I will deliver hand written thanks you's and thanks for the vase help. I sort of figured it was to keep, but then didn't want to be rude either LOL The neighbors who gave the vase are actually new to town (we moved in last week and they moved in on the 1st of Nov) so I love the idea of inviting them over when the other couple comes. I'll call them and set it up for this weekend. I'm sure the new folks would like to meet some folks in town. What a great idea!!!! I knew you guys would come up with a great idea :) Heh heh folkvictorian...actually the vase neighbors live behind our garden in a fairly modest home, though I see them in their garden daily (who does that in Nov?) so I have a feeling they're avid gardeners. I wonder if they want a bigger garden to work on...they may HAVE mine LOL DH said they had to leave their dog behind with a grown child and are missing the dog a lot so they've offered to walk ours whenever we would like which is sweet. (And if you met our obnoxious dog you'd know how sweet it is LOL) The other couple....I don't know where they live aside from "uptown" (there's down town and up town here). They're a fix up couple by the PO of the house who think they'll be great friends....kind of a blind friendship date LOL I think after a big dinner today and the guests who left on Monday (we had a house full...ten couples) I MIGHT (might) be able to have the house presentable by Sunday, but only if I can find a duster to get my naked dusting done with :oP Most of the curtains don't have more than lace curtains...talk about an intro to the neighborhood LOL...See MoreOT - Best housewarming gift?
Comments (16)"One rule of thumb is never try to decorate someone else's home. Chances are you won't get it right. Lamps, pictures, indoor plants, ugly cookie jars are out." And speaking of ugly cookie jars, make sure you remember that your idea of a truly adorable cookie jar may well make your recipient want to ralph. (The THS chicken fetish comes to mind... LOL Teasing!) It all boils down to one thing: Know thine recipient! Best housewarming gifts I've gotten were gift cards to the closest hardware store, because there's invariably the "oh drat I need picture hangers/batteries for the smoke detectors/light bulbs/extra keys cut!" When the giver's cash was short, help with the manual-labor part of unpacking and getting settled in has always been MOST appreciated. bumblebeez, if you're sick of gift cards you can send 'em right on over to me anytime. ;-)...See MoreHousewarming gift suggestions?
Comments (6)All great suggestions... thank you! I'd like to arrive with a gift versus waiting until after the visit... that's for a thank you note. ;) And I failed to mention the entire reason we are visiting. We are only staying one night and then we are all getting on the train and heading to New Orleans for 4 nights. DH and I will fly back from NOLA. While in NOLA we had planned, at the least, to treat with a nice bottle of table wine at dinner one evening. Zalco - We think alike! When visiting friends in Germany, I took dishtowels (embroidered with our state flower), along with their favorite chocolate cherries from Harry's. And children's books for their young daughter who was beginning to be taught English in her school. ***I think the winner is a gift card to their local hardware store, along with a sweet card. They will appreciate that. After 13 years in our new home, we still visit Lowe's at least twice a month. hehehe Thank y'all so much!!!...See MoreHousewarming gift ideas for new East Coasters?
Comments (24)That reminds me of a video someone posted here of two guys who live in Georgetown, one or both is from California, and they had a lot of California art in the house. It was an amazing house with the coolest couple....See More- 6 years ago
