Comments (13)Very interesting group. If your Arctic Lace was on normal scapes, you are fortunate this year; Debra and I both had short (or shorter) scapes. You have a nice bloom of Born to Reign; mine have been splotchy. Most of my Wall of Fire have also been splotchy. Shadow Walker is such a clear purple in your pic. It is described as such, but I wonder if the hue is just as pictured. (Purples so often are difficult to capture, and Judy Davisson's picture shows a more reddish purple.) My Simplicity in Motion was teeny from early dryness....See MoreWednesday Flowers
Comments (15)Goes to show you about different regions. In my part of the country June Bugs are brown beetles. The Green beetles we have are otherwise known as Fig beetles, but they are much larger then a June Bug. I think what you have may be an Iridescent Beetle which is common up in the more northern states. But I'm no expert and Green June Bug is a good name for them too. I'll post a link on the Iridescent Beetle below........Taking off my nerd glasses now in order to tell you how beautiful your daylilies are. I always like looking at Cat Dancer. It's rounded form and pattern are so appealing...Cosmic Struggle, with it's velvet coat on, is a rich looking purple......Your clump shot is a pretty thing. I really like the morning look of Light of the World. I could go on, but let's just say they are all good ones..........Maryl Green June Bug...See MoreWonderful Wednesday Flowers
Comments (16)Kate - The Dominator is not doing as well as I had hoped. It lost a fan over the winter and then got shaded out on three sides by larger more vigorous clumps. I'm going to have to move it this fall. The flower is gorgeous and large, but it has fewer buds than last year. Woodsidequeen - Deer hate the smell of Bounce Fabric Softener sheets. I cut them into strips and tied them on scapes. The smell lasts through several rains, and I haven't had any deer eating since I put them on. I read about it in an article about 20 ways to keep deer from devouring your plants. They also hate the smell of liquid Gain Fabric Softener. I sprayed a lot of my plants with that, but it does wash off after a hard rain. Mantis - The Barbara Mandrell blooms have really improved over the past two days. It has taken three rounds of spaying to get the thrips out of the red bed. Insider Trading and Barbara Mandrell are both about the right height. I lost Entwined in Vine once in a pot. The place where it is now was shaded by bigger clumps last year. But luckily I sold four divisions of Sangria With Mia, so it gets more light now....See MoreWednesday's flowers
Comments (9)Hoosier Nancy and Mantis - How does Daniel Howard Norris perform for you. Kentucky Nancy and I loved it when we saw it blooming in one of the Kingsport, TN gardens. But it was much darker blood red there - and rounder than the photo above. It's one of the few daylilies on my wishlist, but I hesitate to buy it since it's a dip, and I only hybridize with dip UFs. I wish someone would convert it to a tet. But I think how pretty it would look in my red bed, so I may add it this fall. You will love Trance in the late season, It's a stellar performer.
