Laminate Wood Floors are making me CRAZY, any suggestions???
Comments (28)@HU-892358370 did you use straight rubbing alcohol (70% or higher?) and did you dilute it at all? I just moved into a new apartment and the wood laminate floors throughout are sticky, no matter how much I clean! It is gross. I was about to try vinegar and water but saw your post about alcohol. I have the type of flat mop with the removable/washable microfiber heads or "socks" so I think this would be fairly easy for me to try. Just want to avoid damaging floors in a rental, obviously. I am hoping it is mainly soap residue, but I can see drip spots in one area that are super glossy and won't wash up. Wondering if whomever cleaned the apartment before I moved in used a polish or wax inappropriate for laminate floors compounding the problem. Ugh....See MoreThis is how sheet vinyl 'wood' looks with old real wood (pic)
Comments (6)Sheree, I have vinyl "tile" in the kitchen (and wish I had the above wood look instead) and real wood just beyond it. My elderly dogs tend to drip after drinking water, and I've told myself "water is the enemy of wood" so many times that it's practically become a mantra. Most of the time you can find me with a microfiber cloth in my hand, wiping up drips. I'm so glad I don't have real wood in the kitchen..........See MoreLaminate Wood Flooring-how to make it clean and shiny
Comments (2)A Hoover Floormate probably squirts out too much water to be safe for laminate. You also can't use a steam mop. I would get a microfiber mop pad and get it damp with just water. You can probably use 1 part vinegar to 5+ parts water also. I really despise Swiffer wet cloths and other floor cleaning products because they leave a residue. Even Bona for laminate will build up over time since you don't rinse it so if you use a ph-neutral laminate cleaner like Bona only use it occasionally for deep cleaning....See MoreHow do we make this room look better???
Comments (281)I think that works well because the floors are dark too, no? I’m not sure how the dark railing would look with our light floors. We are going back and forth about painting the door white. I think it would modernize the look but when I’ve seen it done before it always looks so obviously DIY. I’m hoping to use the brass accents with the mid century decor to make it look a bit more traditional and match the formality of the door and stairway. The brass and glass table in the entryway was a great find. It was in my parent’s storage! They had painted it black and so I stripped it and cleaned it up. I can’t wait for the entryway rug to come. The vendor keeps pushing back the date and it’s driving me crazy! I keep trying to find another rug, but that light beige with the gray and emerald green accents is so perfect and there’s nothing else like it! I must say that the guidance I’ve had here has REALLY improved this room! Thank you everyone! I’m so sorry if it takes me a while to review and consider all of your comments... I’m indecisive by nature so each step of this is soooo slow...See Moretrickyputt
