*finally* found the right fixture for my low-ceiling bedroom!
Comments (58)Thanks southernheart :) I know it's not everyone's taste, but I thought I'd share because we have a 70s house with the 8' ceilings and it's been nigh on to impossible to find an interesting ceiling fixture, much less one that reflects 'us' as much as this one does. It reflects us so much that last night realized what it's been reminding me of this whole time: amphibian egg masses! :) Backstory: DD and DH volunteered last year and are about to do so again this year with Metro, the local environmental authority, to find and monitor amphibian egg masses in one of Metro's preserves. They loved doing it, loved writing up field notes, it's become a strangely large part of our lives--because of last year's field notes DD's maybe going to write field notes about wildlife observation at the preserve in general -- pretty big honor for an 11 yo :) -- and darned if the little cipollini don't look like amphibian egg masses, some bigger, some smaller, some that didn't 'take' at all...so it's a wonderful, if somewhat odd, sign of spring up there :) (and don't worry, we won't share our personal image with any potential buyers when they come through years from now LOL) pbrisjar, I've been there the first year it opened, to get DH some unreal chocolates for VDay. OH yeah, it's definitely great. If you come visit, we'll go there, o.k.? :)...See MoreWall color for attic bedroom w/ low light
Comments (1)I just had the same exact dilemma. My son is 23 and his room needed repainting (was Bleeker beige). I went with an Ellen Kennon suggestion of Edgewood Green. It's deeper but actually makes the room brighter. I also like the FSP aspect. I think it does make the room feel less dull and walls brighter. The color is more of an olive, but in his lighting it leans more brownish. Had I my way, I would use Wythe Blue BM paint, but I think it leans more turquoise and not sure if he would feel it looked too feminine. I also didn't feel like buying new bedding since I like his....See MoreCeiling lights and low ceilings
Comments (3)We have 7 1/2 ft ceilings, and I think you're right about not hanging them over the open spaces -- anyone over 6 ft would feel like they needed to duck when going under them. But I could see two of them over the peninsula -- they'd be big, but I've seen lots of "oversized" lighting look really good -- a couple kitchens around here have laaaaaaaarge lanterns over smallish islands and they look great. I'd say go for it -- or at least don't rule it out, yet. The old trick of hanging a balloon or paper plate the size of the lights to try it out might give you a good idea of what it'd look like....See MoreDark bedroom with low ceilings and small windows - paint and carpet?
Comments (59)I like the last 3 - though still not what I'd do. Too much going on in them, and we tend to have too much clutter to add business to the walls. I wish I could keep things cleaner but we're fairly useless. Hopefully with these movements we'll be able to shed some crap. But I've been pretty bold lately... pained one room white (mascarpone) and teal... and we have a living room painted in mascarpone and cayenne, and the dining room is mascarpone and Adriatic (if I'm remembering properly - it's a deep blue). I think if we do something interesting with the closet doors (with color) then I'll leave the small wall white - but otherwise, I may paint. I'll leave the glass bricks open - that's the only "natural" light that comes into the bathroom....See MoreClaire
