Mystery Plant Help

Hi, I got this plant awhile ago from Home Depot (a year or so) but it wasn't marked with any useful info. If anyone knows what it is that would be super helpful! The leaves are pretty thick, waxy and hearty and the plant itself is fairly dense.

It's definitely a hoya--not sure what species though.

Try Hoya revolubilis.

Is there ANY chance of a photo? Rather hard to guess when its so small. I'm thinking from the 3-leaf bit that its some kind of pea/legume which might be a native but could be wrong. Usually a "pop-up" is either a seed carried on the wind or dropped by a bird etc, or a seed latent in the potting mix - if it was re-cycled at your place, or if it fell into the potplant before you bought it. Interesting anyway let us know if you can tell more or show it.

Oh yes! I had one of that variety at my last home, 10 plus years ago. Thanks for jogging my memory - it needs jogging. :) As I recall, it was quite the pricey plant at 50 dollars or more. My neighbor was the beneficiary of that lovely. IIRC the foliage was finer, more fern like?

They look like poppy seedlings, Papaver somniferum. You can see what looks like a flower bud developing on the larger one.

I would have suggested maybe H kentiana or wayetti (Exotic Angel mixes up the tags of these). There's a 3rd that looks quite similar, I've forgotten it just now.

That dark leaf edge is familiar, I just can't think of it.

There's a Hoya forum nearby (see top of page). Try posting these pix there & folks will help narrow down the ID.

TropicB, I didn't know you grew Hoyas. I'm not familiar w/ the name you're suggesting.

Looks like a Wayetti to me but aurora will know! LOL!

Karen, I started looking up wayetti because I thought the leaves in the photo were similar but a bit too large. But looking further I came across revolubilis and they seemed to match better, hence the suggestion.

I've been growing Hoyas for a while but don't have a big collection. However, I have a big interest in native plants in habitat and have experience in natural growing conditions for a number of Hoya species. That's why I have a large number of in habitat photos of them. They're an interesting find when I'm trekking, most of my walking companions don't notice them or even know what they are.

Thx for explaining. I've grown Hoyas for long time & am also longtimer at Hoya forum. Hence my surprise at such an unfamiliar name.

I looked it up & while I see the leaf similarity, they almost look grouped in a hand of leaves kind of way (Schefflera-like maybe). So it looks like a different growth pattern to me. I'd image Denise from Omaha would likely know as well.

How excellent you live somewhere they naturally grow, I'm sure I'm not alone in envying you that. Might I pls. ask where?
