Why are my RED Knockout roses turning Pink, then almost white?
Comments (7)Sbcand, Roses thrive in neutral soil. If the soil is sandy, there is a great chance your soil is too acidic for the rose. One half cup of lime at the initial planting of the rose would have taken care of the acidic part of the soil. Every spring, I add 1/2 cup of lime to the top of the soil around my roses with my compost. I bought a double knock out rose this spring. I added the lime, I have no problems with it. I love that rose bush, it is care free. If the soil PH isn't correct for any bush, it will be unable to absorb nutrients from the soil. You could try adding 1/2 cup of FAST acting lime around the top of the soil of the rose and watering real good. They sell PH meters inexpensively at Big Home center plant departments, like HD, you could test it yourself, before adding the lime. My soil is awefully sandy, so one of my roses I actually dug out a hughe hole and placed Miracle Grow Rose Garden soil in (big bag), and planted it in that (Pope John Paul II white rose), and now I don't have to worry about PH at all because the garden soil, (not potting soil), is neutral for roses. Comments (4)Sometimes people are not diligent in cutting off the branches that may grow below the graft on the rootstock. Then you get the bloom from the rootstock along with the bloom from the graft. They don't always bloom at the same time. That may be one reason why you have seen two colors on your plant. The pink from the rootstock and white from the hybrid graft. The use of fertilizer may enhance bloom color, but the lack of it does not change color from pink to white. randy...See MoreYellow rose that changes to orange then deep pink
Comments (19)Sounds like Pinata to me-that's what immediately came to mind on reading your post. The link below contains some pictures of my pinata, showing bloom development/color changes as it ages. I happen to like Pinata a good deal, even though it is a slow grower, but I knew what I was buying when I purchased it-I'm sure it was quite a 'surprise' when yours started to bloom! Comments (16)According to description it is supposed to have enormous blooms, my conditions have not been appropriate to produce any beyond the standard so far, just average but maintaining average even in heat. I am still learning about it which is why I posted. 2021 was its first year in USA I think and Palatine was such a mess ordering this past year than others may not have gotten it yet. I also planted Rosemantic Fushia at the same time. It was a strong grower and bloomer but for its first year was more like the old time HT growth and bloom.... sticks with blooms.... but lot of them.! The color was a bit strong for me to love it but others that saw in my garden, thought it was grand and it did have a long long vase life. Always a plus....See Morekatestone
