Comments (8)Pillbugs are laughed off by many gardeners who believe the reference books that say they only feed on decaying vegetable matter, but they can be a dangerous pest. Two years ago they wiped out all my melon seedlings, destroyed many of my summer squash seedlings, and maimed a few mature plants by sawing into their stems and climbing up to saw off leaves, which would fall to the ground and be devoured by hundreds of their brethren. I didn't assume this, I caught them in flagrante delicto. Since then, I haven't had a problem, but when I was in the midst of pillbug warfare I found that Sluggo Plus, applied regularly, did a fair job (don't know about chemicals, I don't use them). Also, growing seedlings in flats or packs and waiting to transplant until they are quite sturdy will help to reduce pillbug damage....See MoreDo you know any blooming fools?
Comments (11)Although I do not have that long a track record, my Aeranthes Grandiose 'Shooting Star' courtesy of Oak Hill has pretty much been in non-stop bloom now for 7 months, and putting up more spikes! It must be typical of these because this plant has been a fixture on his "in spike" list non-stop for a while now. My Phrag "Sorcerer's Apprentice" has also been making new growth and blooming non-stop since acquisition. It is a beautiful if not sprawling plant. Unfortunately my wife and kids call it my "scrotum plant" . I think it is beautiful anyway. It is multifloral and I overheard my daughter announce "Dad's growing more scrotums" ... "no, its his plant, a flower on one of his orchids". She was on the phone with a friend and noted a new spike, forgetting herself she announced the buds arrival and gave her phone friend something to wonder about. Calvin, I am in the same boat with the R/O. My local Walmart already has me as "The water guy" when I go in to refill my 1 & 5 gallon containers. I have contemplated doing what you are doing but in stead have been sort of dunking and recyling along the same lines. Except when leaching, I go all out for a good leaching and its R/O for everyone! We will go to Orchid Hell together brother....See MoreWhat do you do with your babies???
Comments (12)We closed up the pond in the Extention gardens today and I wound up with two very healthy Comets to add to the crowd along with 2 dozen or so guppies. The fishies are still doing their orgies although I hope they won't produce any more viable babies this season. I will have to decide what to do with the guppies since they won't survive ice. I have aquariums but they don't do as well in those. The raccoon managed to kill one of the gourami and the rest are stressed out because of it. I'll start catching them tomorrow. It is amazing how well they adapt to the pond community. I found out this spring that gourami can leap as much as 3 feet across the water. They have apparently been doing it in the aquariums, too. I thought I was imagining things when I saw one leap from one tank to another out of the corner of my eye. The count kept changing from day to day. Now that I have seen them do it in the pond I know I am not crazy. I think I need some lids for the tanks. Sandy...See Moredo any of you buy health products online- at a decent price
Comments (5)We buy our health products on i-herb.com and we are really happy with them. They have great choice, superfast shipping and good prices. I have dry eye and omega3 helps me and when I got my omega from local drugstore it got bad. After I again went and ordered from i-herb it is better again. So I stick with and believe that their stuff is actually good quality. Anyway, if you try I hope you will be satisfied as we are....See MoreLynnNM
