When you are really glad to be told you have an infection
Comments (7)Yes, I have heard something like that. Oh, how I'd rather have (and this is far far far far far less than you) tendonitis than a stress fracture in my leg. Not the same. But I hear you. I was so glad it wasn't a broken bone and "only" PT was needed. I'm glad all you need is a bit of TLC. Take care and get well!...See MoreSo you've told me I dont have the hostas I thought I have...
Comments (7)Leafover, I have a blue mouse ears that was labeled Love Pat, a Paul's Glory that was labeled Forbidden Fruit, a Summer Breeze that was labeled Great Escape, a Francee that was labeled as Wide Brim, an Aphrodite labeled as Plantaginea, a Gold Standard that I've forgotten what it was labeled, a September Sun that's really an "I don't know what", one labeled as Elegans that's another "I dont' know what", a Royal Standard that's an "I don't know what", One labeled as Blue Cadet that I think is another Blue Mouse Ears and now a Pizzazz, that's another "I don't know what" and I only have about 40 hosta. I've gotten mislabled plants from dedicated hosta growers, from mail order gardening catalogs, neighborhood nurseries and big box home improvement stores. I suggest you take photos of flowers if you get any this year and note when they bloomed. That would help identify the plant. Your white centered one could be any of several. It kind of looks like Dream Queen/thunderbolt/Dream Weaver, Ann Kulpa and Night before Christmas (and many more). If we saw a photo of it when it's not faded by the sun, someone might be able to ID it. Same with the white edged one. So basically, I'm suggesting that you wait until next spring when they are fully leafed out and still have good color and post them then. If you have photos and time of flowering, that would help, too. Other than that, you have to decide how important a label is to you. For some people, it's very important. It's so important that they will give away an unidentified hosta. For me, it varies. I've had some for years and years that I can't identify. I'm keeping those. I don't know about the others, yet. I suggest you post your request for ID with a topic that includes either "noid" or "ID" in the heading. Post no more than two hosta per thread to avoid confusion. Most people like to see if they can ID the unknowns, so will look at any thread with that requests a name. The more people you have look at it, the better chance you have of getting a good ID. bkay...See MoreI told you I'd have a story to tell when I got back....
Comments (7)Zebra mussel, LOL! I really did laugh out loud at that one :) I found a deer skull last year right by a path I walk at least once a month - most of the skeleton was there. I cannot believe I never saw this dead deer before it was skeletonized (or that dear doggies didn't whiff it). I brought the skull home, which has one nice antler (that was buried in the ground) - and one gnawed off stump that the rodents had been at. I have to wonder if it floated downstream and was washed to where I saw it? There's a large stream nearby, but I don't recall a flooding event big enough to move a buck carcass. Makes me wonder if I'm as observant as I like to think......See MoreHave you been told "You don't want... "?
Comments (49)This is one of my pet peeves. We are interviewing contractors for our kitchen project right now. Some of them look at the plans, listen to what we have to say, and then raise a point or two like, have you thought about x? I am fine with that and happy to have someone point out things based on their experience that I may not have realized. Then there are the contractors that say things like, "Induction? You don't want induction. All the best chefs cook with gas." Grrr. These guys have probably never gotten near a cooktop in their lives other than to install one. That doesn't seem to stop them from giving their very definitive advice. Or the guy who said - "you have to do dark wood floors." Me - I don't want dark wood floors. I love how they look but they show too much dust and I know I won't be able to keep them clean. Him - oh, no, that's silly, you have to do dark wood floors, they will look great in your kitchen. Well, guys with an attitude like that will NEVER get my business. We have spoken to about six contractors, and with each contractor, I raised the issue of make up air requirements. Each and every one of them dismissed me and said something like "I've done lots of kitchens, never installed make up air, and never had a problem. Crack open a window when you use the hood on high." This makes me crazy. I wish at least one of them would listen to what we have to say and respond - well, I haven't done it before but I'll ask my HVAC guy what he thinks....See Moreroselee z8b S.W.
