Blooming on Wednesday
We haven't reached peak yet but so many are blooming I can't get around to hybridize them or get photos as much as I would like. Here are a few I managed to get.
We have loved Pineapple Bites since we got it, but it has been short. This year (its third here), it has managed decent height scapes.
Wispy Rays is showing off today.
Creepy Crawler is an old (1979) toothy.
Bristling Fury had better get its stuff together or it is going to be out of here. It's been here since 2012 and is still a small plant producing a few flowers a year. We have gotten some interesting seedlings from it though.
Richard Norris says the eye in Forever in Love sometimes breaks up in patterns, but we haven't seen it yet.
Free China is just in its second year and is looking better. It is terribly splotchy last year.
I think the right name was chosen for Gasping for Breath. It has done next to nothing in our garden. We even bought another one and planted it in a different location. We will give the new one a couple of years and then it will take its last breath if it doesn't shape up.
Meet Your Destiny is looking better this year.
Moving Forward has done really well.
Open Book is not a very big flower but it is pretty.

6 years agoPins and Needles does well in our garden as do all the Rice introductions we grow.
Purple Peek-a-boo is not a large flower, but it is an interesting color.
This is only the second year for Ruby Storm and it is showing us some beautiful blooms.
Saber tooth Tiger is a vigorous grower.
Sam Abell is one of our favorites.
Tri-colored Bite is a Lambertson that does not like our climate. It didn't bloom last year at all, but this year the winter was mild enough, we got a small scape.
Ashwood Summer Sunshine X Saber Tooth Tiger is the seedling Queen of the Garden today. We like the coral color on this one.

Comments (14)Remy- It could be WISESTS OF WIZARDS but I don't know. There are a bunch of them that look too similar to me that I have which are MINSTRALS FIRE, LEE PICKLES and CONTINENTAL HOLIDAY. Of the three, the palest eyezone is in WISEST OF WIZARDS. Still even that changes from flower to flower. Comments (11)Signet, we just got Carnosaur a few weeks ago. I think it was grown in Florida and already had a scape. Actually, we are baby-sitting Carnosaur for our club so it didn't cost us anything. In three years we will take back the increase to auction and keep a piece for ourselves. The luck of the draw gave us first pick this year. Maryl, the sad story is that we no longer have Krakatoa Katie. We had several lined out double fans and a few small clumps and it all died. The small clumps tried to grow this spring, but didn't make it. We have had several do that this spring. They put out a small fan and then it dies. There were only two other people that had Krakatoa Katie and one of them lost his. His yard flooded in the winter (a drainage issue in his subdivision) and it died. The only Krakatoa Katie that lies is in Indianapolis. He has about 6 fans of it. We told him that when it got big enough, we wanted to buy a couple of fans from him. After growing it for about 6 years, I'm surprised that all of it died. Debra, our goal is to get a wide red edge on the white daylily. Unfortunately some of the best edges are on the southerns. I was using Stellar Stitchery because of its red edge (and it has white teeth on the sepals), but it died this spring. I will try to replace that one. Bullfrog Kisses and Marilyn Monroe both died as well. We do have some seedlings with red edges that are offspring of Stellar Stitchery. They look good and we will be using them this season. We also will try flip the eye color to red by using Sam Abel, one the the widest edges on a hardy one that I know. Sam doesn't set seed very well though. What I'd really like is a red edge with teeth (red, white, or gold--I don't care). That's a few years down the road, I'm afraid. Here's a seedling that will be used this year (if it is still alive--I think it is). Not as heavy an edge as I want, but it does go almost all around. It even has a few teeth on the sepals. Although I have mixed feelings about toothy daylilies, I can apprecite them! Your daughter’s seedlings are really nice, especially the second one.
