Mystery solved - expensive!
Comments (21)Thanks for the 'heads-up Grandms, this 61 yr old is going to give it a shot. Too darn expensive to hire someone to do it. Grandms, how did you ground yourself? These things make me very nervous. Owbist, the scan shows 4 slots. Two with 256MB each, two empty. I'm assuming I could put two sticks of 512 in each of the empty slots? I'll leave the 256's. When the $200.00 tech was here, I showed him the Crucial scan and he took a look inside the machine. He saw 2 empty slots. He did say one was not easy to get to. He also said it really needed to be cleaned. At that time he thought I was going to hire him. After paying his bill, I changed my mind. Jane Maybe I should just take out the 256's and replace those with 512 each and not try to reach the empty slots. Jane...See More43 year old mystery is finally solved!!!
Comments (5)Another place to search is Replacements. I think they have the largest selection in the U.S. They are VERY expensive, but at least you might find what you are looking for there, get a name, and then can look elsewhere. I was doing a google search once looking for a cookie jar we had when I was growing up. I couldn't remember exactly what it looked like but in my search I hit on it, it was only $145.00. Needless to say I didn't buy it. It didn't fit into my kitchen decor, but if it had been under $20 I would have bought it for the memories....See MoreKerosene smell in clothes dryer - mystery solved!
Comments (27)Thank you for this post! I couldn't figure out why my clothes smellled like butane . I wasn't sure if my dryer was going bad, if the dryer ventilation was clogged (even though my ventilation dryer pipes were recently installed) or if I had a gas leak. We can't live without a dryer and yet, I was mostly concerned with safety. After reading this post, I realized that my floors were sanded and stained the day (and day after) I ran my dryer. I would have never attributed that terrible smell to the floor chemicals seeping into my dryer without these posts! Its been a few days now and clothes are drying and smelling great. Hope the butane smell washes out of those 2 chemical loads....See MoreHelp solving smelly house mystery!
Comments (11)There's few things more elusive than odors. In your case two things combined are red flags. #1. "The plumber seems to be not too bright, so I truly believe that he s stumped." #2." At the time of purchase, the house had no plumbing vents, so contractor's plumber installed two." What troubles me is that the house supposedly didn't have plumbing vents for a period of many years. If that were true, surly ongoing problems would have forced past owners to take action and install some. Now all of a sudden a "not so bright" plumber say's I need them and proceed's to install some. I submit the house was at some point during a remodel (you did say the house is old),plumbing was added or upgraded and as a matter of choice, cost savings or convenience, vacuum breakers were installed. The "not so bright"plumber didn't recognize them and by installing conventional vents allowed gas/air to flow both directions at vacuum breakers. What would I do before paying anything else? Have a competent contractor conduct a smoke test and/or check out the sewer system....See MoreUser
