WARNING Elephant ears and other dangerous plants
Comments (15)Golden, thanks for posting this warning! Diffenbacia (dumb cane), philodendron are a couple of common house plants that are toxic. Pencil cactus, & so many more! I love my 2 different species of elephant ears, but they are way down back where the grandkids are never unsupervised. Same with my houseplants, I have some toxic ones, and just try to make sure the kids are never unattended around them. And I try to keep them where they're not easily attainable by them. Anyhow ... I always wear gloves when gardening. Always! (for 30+ years now) And I've never gotten poison oak or ivy rashes or anything like that. Good fitting leather gloves are best. They last for years, and are like a true second skin. Worth the investment. They have kept my hands from getting cut or injured outside so many times. Be safe and don't be eating or handling any plants that you're not sure about, and watch the kids & pets! Take precautions by using clothing and gloves when handling. Watch out rubbing your eyes, etc after handing them too. Always wash up really good after playing in the dirt! Now as for bugs flying into your mouth outside ... yep stuff like that can happen! I've got a friend who had a bug fly into his ear when we were sitting around a swimming pool outside one night ... it's funny to think of him stomping the floor board in the car everytime the bug would move in his ear when we were on the way to the hospital LOL! but I'm sure he didn't think it was funny at all! Awww, sweet memories lol ~tenderlee :-)...See MoreComputers mixing up wireless signal
Comments (9)Update. Mike and Mikie win the prize! First off I gave my son a wired mouse and the weird moving cursor stopped. I still find it hard to believe as the distance is really far, but it must have been. He was using a Longitech mouse and I, a Microsoft. I had a tech come to the house and he said they were too far away to cross signals, but it hasn't happened since my son started using the wired mouse. His mouse was a small, laptop type with the little flash plugged into the computer. What makes it even more weird, if he tries to use his mouse more than 5ft from his laptop, it doesn't work! Yet we must be at least 100 ft away from each other and on different floors. I'm still not completely convinced, but so far I haven't had the problem again. The tech did find a bigger problem with my desktop and I will start a different post. Thanks, guys...you are genius! Jane...See Moreweak wireless signal or other?
Comments (4)Since routers usually use 2.4GHz frequency as do many cordless phones, microwave ovens, and the like, are there any of these objects nearby which might be causing interference with the signal? I also see that you are using one brand of router and another brand of PCI card. Could be these two are not playing nicely together. Probably two of the same brand would work better. However, my Netgear router is upstairs where my satellite modem sits, and my laptop with built-in Broadcom wireless (different brand here) is downstairs and I always get the full 54MBS signal on the laptop. Hope this might help a bit....See MoreNo signal from Netgear Wireless Adaptor
Comments (5)fwiw My experiences with the plug in usb WiFi adapters, they all seem to have much lower receive and send power than the internal types. They struggle with distance I think is their main problem for some uses. Here Im using a little tiny Trendnet/Realek usb mini adapter, sticks out maybe 1/2 inch. Has 100mw rx 200mw tx, with no antenna, and that's = very weak. It works flawlessly though in my use, even in full energy savings mode - I bought it to experiment with two channels and it matches my Trendnet wifi/dsl-modem/router, and only cost ten bucks delivered.. Actually it worked out so perfect for here that I use it full time as its weakness in send/receive signal is such that it doesn't see but just one neighbor, where as if I actuate my internal wifi it sees a dozen ssid's at any given moment . It is mostly line of sight here to the router here which I keep that router set at 12% transmit power to actually appreciate in my mind I have as fast as possible network speeds without bothering neighbors signals. My iverizon dsl 7.1mb is way under the 120 to 150mb windows says is available - so do I need it :) But if I were streaming to a tv or moving backup files around.. maybe 2 channels then would really be appreciated and actually useful. I don't think I've had a single dropout since I uninstalled the TrendNet install and let Microsoft automatically discover new hardware and install with their version of the realtek wifi driver. Windows has all the necessary built in programming for managing it....See Morekenjwy
