Is this indoor or outdoor? "Floor" I am used to being on the main floor, in front of the stage with bleachers or other elevated seating being arranged around it (and the stage). $85, out back and no chairs provided sounds like an outdoor venue, where at at least three of them here the surface would be lawn. And you bring your own chairs, which must have a low profile, in the manner of a chaise or you may be moved even farther away (don't ask how I found this out).

There was one outdoor show we went to where "in the bar" turned out to be standing in a small corral off in a corner where there weren't nearly enough benches or tables for everyone they had placed there - and those parties already seated when we arrived pretty much hogged these through the entire show.

So if you don't know already you should find out exactly what you get for the $85 - and if you can bring your own chairs.

No, the Whole floor is standing. Not a chance.

It depends on the venue. Music events are often held in "ballrooms", "auditoriums", "dance halls" etc., with no fixed seating. I suspect more people can be accommodated in a standing-only format rather than bringing in folding chairs.

There's a very popular and cozy indoor music venue in my area like the photos above, it's pictured below. Most shows are standing only. I've seen many big name bands and performers there. Artists through the decades have been quoted saying they like the place for its intimacy.

Generational differences. ;-) I stopped going to most concerts when they became overpriced "sitting" events. The idea of paying big bucks to be stuck in a seat was appalling to me. In the sixties everyone wanted the freedom to move about, dance, paint on the floor, or lay on the grass. Concerts were social events. Of course we would go to other venues with seating to watch more refined performances, the talented guitarist, the excellent vocalist etc.

I don't attend concerts anymore at all but prefer venues like Elmer shows.

That's the Catalyst down in Santa Cruz. Maybe you've been to the Fillmore in SF, it's the same with General Admission standing on an open floor. Both are sites of historically important and fantastic concerts through the years. Sometimes shows way back were held in some of the various Civic Auditoriums around without fixed seating and they were the same.

I'm still an active rock concert goer. I'll stand through a show if I have to but unless it's a top favorite of mine and there are no alternative venues to go to, I prefer a comfortable seat these days. I avoid the mega stadium shows. There's nothing like the pleasant shows, settings, and seats offered at the Mountain Winery and Villa Montalvo, both in Saratoga.

We just went to see ZZ Top and Jimmy Buffett at a large soccer stadium and the nosebleed section with bench seating was $75 a seat. I lost my small purse too because we had waited too long in line to bother taking it back to the car. I just stuffed my jean pockets with what I really needed to keep and pitched it in the trash can. Apparently in this terrorism provoked society, we can only use clear tote bags to carry our stuff. Wish I had known beforehand, I really didn't need most of the stuff that I carried during the concert.

The concert was our first in 20 years and was so much fun! The last concert we went to was also ZZ Top :-) Jimmy Buffet's Land Sharks were fun to watch as they wove through the crowd.

There's no way I could stand through an entire concert. Not without being carted out to an ambulance. Not any more. If I can't sit (even if people are standing in front of me simply because they are), I can't attend. So I'd stand for a few minutes to see the act, but I'd be mostly at these venues to HEAR the act! I doubt there are any indoor venues that allow you to bring your own chair (unless it's a wheelchair).

Bad ankles that never healed perfectly are the pits.

My last concert was Concrete Blonde, in NYC, about 3-4 years ago, and yes, that one was standing only, but it was before I broke my ankle. I would have liked to have sat there, too, actually. Although I can't recall if the outdoor pickin and fiddling bluegrass event I saw was the summer before or after Concrete Blonde - we brought lawn chairs to the bluegrass event.

Edit: I never bring a purse into NYC - not because of searches but just one less thing to have to watch, especially on subways. Pockets are great.

PK, we went to a graduation, not concert yesterday and my purse was searched before we were allowed forward to the ticket taking doorway. Any food, beverages, weapons? Well, No. None of those, I'd only planned to be here long enough to see the kids graduate ;0) An Xfinity stadium. If I'd been attending a paid event and had been treated to those very low, hard plastic seats I'd have been very disappointed.

Interesting, PK! We have just been considering going to see ZZTop in Des Moines in a couple of months. But I think it's at the Civic Center downtown, which - the last time we were there - was NOT a standing venue. Maybe I'd better find that out first!

We saw Bruce Springsteen a few years ago in the arena that the St. Paul, MN NHL hockey team plays in. We stood for the entire show. This was the first concert in which I felt old and it was because the guys standing next to us were talking about mortgage interest rates! Not a typical concert conversation topic:)

I don't mind standing, as long as I can hear the music, glimpse the musicians, and keep clear of energetic young dancers (moshers?). But yeah I'm old enough to appreciate a seated venue. And musicians who start on time. And "hear-o" earplugs to keep the volume at a reasonable level.

A couple years ago I snagged two front-row seats to a rare theater performance by my favorite rock band. Finally, I'd be close enough to see the guitar strings vibrate, feel every drumbeat, see the emotion they pour into their delivery! And you know what, as the lights dimmed and the show started, the whole darn theater behind us stood up -- so we had to stand up too. So much for 'seats'!

Why did you have to stand if you were in the first row and the standers were behind you?

Elmer, we two would have stood out like a sore thumb if we failed to stand up. Literally everyone in the theater was standing -- well, except the drummer. What would the band have thought, if two people in the middle of the first row stayed in their seats -- that we weren't thrilled to see them? I would have hated to hurt their feelings! And I must admit it was fun, feeling like the whole audience was united in excitement. So sometimes it's just plain fun to give into peer pressure.
