OT: Granny
Comments (7)Somebody is letting me "borrow" their wireless signal from my kitchen today...but I'll have my own (secured) cable high speed sometime tomorrow. Ribbit/rabbit, Annie got sick a couple of hours into the trip, even though we gave her a pill. We didn't notice she'd barfed all over the arm rest in the pickup...I wondered what Mr. H had all over the elbow of his sweatshirt when we stopped at McD's for a quick breakfast *snicker*. Hah! It didn't even take away our appetites, we're getting so used to dog barf. Even funnier, the next day (colder than H!) the Mr. took the pups on a potty break, stepped out of the truck and promptly disappeared from my sight. He stepped into some deep mud, slid down an embankment on his rear end...he and the dogs were a muddy mess, as was the pickup when they got back in. Nobody was hurt, though. Boy dog had an odd growth on his ear, so had surgery today. Girl dog has got so fat she hurts herself just trying to jump in or out of the chair she sleeps on. She has to go for blood tests Friday to see if it's her thyroid. She's such a sweet baby (14 months old) it breaks my heart to see her limping. I missed all of you guys, too! Comments (34)Nana, I got on last night with the intention of reading all the posts and commenting....of course when I saw the word "purple", that was the first one I read being me. When I went to comment I just started falling apart and realized I couldn't act 'normal' afterall. I'd finished writing my Dad's obituary and picking a photo for it a few hours earlier, so that's probably why I was a mess. tho I seem to be staying that most of the time. I'm clearing things from Dad's room, except things special to me, because I 'have' to. I need to see that room in a different way as soon oas I can. It hurts too much otherwise. The hospital bed has to go back to the VA, so I hope to find some different furniture for that room in the future. The gigantic old dresser needs to go, but Zorro can keep the easy chair. He claimed that years ago. ;o) Basically I'm just donating Dad's clothes and going thru loads of paperwork. He saved every scrap of paper and trying to sort the necessary from the useless has been a challenge. After Mom died 10 yrs ago, and he moved in with me, he really kept very little. "Stuff" was her thing, not his. He stopped driving when she died too, their car was totaled in the wreck and he didn't want another one. So Dad's belongings are very few, except his clothes and a lot of framed family photos. I'm so glad I don't have a lot to go thru again, like when we lost her. this is the photo I chose for his obituary, its how I'll always remember him with his wonderful smile, ready to tell someone a joke. hugs, Karen...See MoreOT a little sad today. Calling pet owners
Comments (151)boxerpups - I am so sorry for your loss. Pets are family and provide so much love and affection that is unspoken and unconditional. We lost our beloved lab of nearly 10 years this April just shy of his 10th birthday. He developed a splenic tumor and was very sick. We opted to operate b/c the other choice was to put him down or let the tumor eventually explode (which it was close to at the time). We knew the chances of it being a cancerous tumor were very high but we wanted to give him every chance he could at life and there was a small chance it was non cancerous which gave us hope. We operated and he had a rough time recovering b/c of the size of the tumor and b/c his heart had been so stressed due to the tumor. We checked him out of the hospital against medical advice after nearly a week in the vet hospital b/c he wasn't eating on his own or really perking up if we weren't there. We brought him home and he was never happier to be home, went out in the yard, went upstairs (even though he wasn't supposed to - he always slept upstairs next to my side of the bed), snuggled with all of us and ATE! We thought he was going to be okay, drs were amazed he responded so well to being home. Well he passed away the next morning. :( Sometimes pets need the extra time with their owners as much has we need the extra time with them. Our dog NEEDED to come home and one extra night with us, check out the yard, go all over the house and make sure all of us were okay too. Turns out his tumor was not cancerous after all. We are glad we operated and glad we got one more night. So just because YOU needed the time, don't think your beloved pet didn't need the extra time too to say goodbye and spend with you and your family....See MoreTotally OT, as if this forum were ever ON topic
Comments (24)Outside playing, my busyness seems to come and go. But there's nothing like a day spent with other women and my kids' peers to remind me how good I really have it. My kids are healthy even though they're a lot of work (and they aren't little!) my parents are mentally and mostly physically healthy and alive and nearby if frail and 90+, I have a pretty supportive DH, my living room does not have a foot (or 6!) of water in it, I can kind of choose my hours, I don't run my Roomba with a new puppy in the house (has everyone seen that story?) etc. robo, your grandmother is very perceptive! With the caregivers I can go back to being a daughter mostly. My next step is to hire a maintenance service to look after the house (things like checking the gutters and basement and tending to the issues that arrise), because I spent a week mentally berating a sibling for thinking that "that leak isn't so bad" while I sucked up gallons of water with my floor machine. I don't mind the cleaning as much as the berating: one is execise, the other is bad for my spirit. Yes, another option would be to move them out of the house, but who are we kidding? Today, of course, brings a new issue: the hospital wouldn't do a "full admit", but "admit for observation". Argh. Medicare and I have a love-hate relationship. I don't do that kind of bookkeeping well....See MoreUser
