Comments (21)Once I use up my peat pots, I don't think I'm going to buy any more. Last year, I started my tomato plants in small plugs. When they got big enough, I transplanted them into large peat pots. When they were ready to go outside, I transplanted the peat pots into their final containers. Fast forward to end of season. I was clearing out the dead tomato plants from the pots. I pulled one out and the peat pot came out INTACT. It had never broken down or fallen apart, and the poor tomato plant, even though it was in a large container, was pretty much potbound still inside that little peat pot. Very few of the roots had ever found their way out into the rest of the container. I used some peat pots this year because I still had some, but I made sure to tear them before I transplanted so the plant roots could find their way out....See MoreWish me luck!
Comments (7)Oh how I envy you! I just love old houses - especially super old ones (realizing all the work) and I have neighbors too close in this urban neighborhood and SO appreciate all that wonderful space you have! Maybe this is a bad idea - I don't know - but I was just wondering if you could simply have the windows moved where they should be. It's not cheap but I'm guessing either was buying that house/property. I mean we have very little money (TMI) and were able to have our original attic windows removed and then we raised the window jams to be taller so that we could look out and see a bit more of the little bit of view we have. I no longer remember what we paid but it wasn't that bad - I'd remember if it was. The only problem is if there's a wall in there that prevents the windows from being moved over more, obviously. Moving an entire wall would be a lot more expensive, needless to say. But the symmetry thing would probably bug me, too. Another problem is that if you move the first set of windows over, what's left to the right? If you move all the windows into perfect spaces from left to right, that would leave a real "addition" look to the far-right having either no windows there where there would be on a colonial, or else odd-shaped windows to fit into that space, you know? I'm guessing you're not about to cut off the end of the house in the name of symmetry - haha. It might be best to just leave it all as it is and put a pretty dress on her. :) If moving windows doesn't work, you're obviously left with either not putting shutters up, or putting them up regardless. It's hard to imagine if the shutters would call attention to the asymmetry or if they'd hide it better. Perhaps you could draw a picture of the house the way it is w/ as close to accurate proportions as you can get, make copies, or print out a few larger copies of a photo, and then you could draw on shutters yourself to see what they would look like? I think they would add a lot of charm - especially if you got some very old-style ones, appropriate for the period (whichever period you decide to go with!). There's something to be said about having SUCH an old house that has an addition that is also so old. While being kind of awkward, it also sort of tells a story and isn't necessarily something you have to hide. At first, most people probably wouldn't notice the asymmetry but if someone does, seeing what you've done with it is what matters, you know? Very exciting stuff!...See MoreWish me luck ...
Comments (53)Prostate is three times normal size, on original visit cancer doc couldn't reach the far end of it with his finger, which I think he found a bit unusual. So they say that those beads? pearls? of radioactive stuff aren't useful in such a situation: a problem of too large proportions, it seems. Some time ago some guys were complaining about being unenthused about the doc sticking his/(her?) finger up their rear end ... ... and I said that they thought that they had a problem ... how would they like to be the doc? They hadn't thought of that! Sometimes helpful to put yourself into someone else's shoes (rubber gloves?). Hypothetically, that is. I wondered about telling this story here this afternoon, as I didn't want to appear to be dragging this message back to the top, unnecessarily ... ... but there were some issues to deal with, apart from that ... ... so here's the story. As I was taking son home from the cancer centre to his place, as we approached a signal light on the main street in our city, going with the green, a slim young lady stepped off of the curb on the left on the far side, texting as she walked. I slowed some, but as she approached the middle of the street, she stopped ... ... then, as we were closer, began walking again ... ... and I was on the brakes. Then she decided that it would be a good idea to stop. Don't know whether she saw us ... or heard my leaky/noisy muffler, too close for comfort. I'll have to tell the garage, where they told me last year that the muffler wasn't in good shape ... but that I didn't need to worry about it asphyxiating me. Maybe it helped a young lady avoid a skinned shin? (There's a $400.00 fine, recently imposed, for distracted driving: they say that it's causing more fatalities than the drunks, lately). Maybe I should have pulled over and gone back to ask her whether she knew how to get tire tracks across her legs? ole joyfuelled...See MoreHyn Patty, Western NC Mountains (USA)
