Andersen French Door Latch Problem
Comments (24)No where have I read how to stop an Anderson lift door handle from coming loose on its shaft repeatedly. What I found, just recently after fighting it for months is that the shaft goes through a rubber gasket which is under the door plate. This gasket breaks down and the rubber debris allows the handle set screw to slide on the shaft. Remove handle and dry clean the grove (which is tapered unfortunately) clean the shaft really well and the set screw will hold much longer....See MoreAndersen windows vs Okna Windows
Comments (42)We have also been doing extensive research thanks in large part to this site and some of the insightful posters. We saw all the usual suspects including andersen and pella. We were shown the Okna 600 and liked the window more than andersen believe it or not. We have a total of 10 double hungs with no grids. We are doing a ” basic replacement ” and we were quoted $7600 for all 10 windows including installation ( Okna 600 deluxe ). We actually signed a contract last week and think we were given a competitive price although we didnt base our decision soley on price. We should have our windows installed in late February based on all the supplier issues everyone is facing. We are also having a front door installed by the same company and we chose a fiberglass entry door by HMI Doors based on their recommendation. Its a craftsman style door with no side lites and we are paying $3400 including installation. Needless to say, we are excited and can’t wait for our new windows and door....See Morepoor performance from Andersen windows
Comments (25)I only repair windows and can say I've reinstalled my fair share of misinstalled windows, correcting every problem imaginable. Rarely are windows installed per basic manufacturers instructions because either builders/remodelers think the way they did it for the last 1000 times is the best... or they don't have the time or money to do it right. I am in the process of replacing the windows in my own house. Now here is the kicker... I now have 4 types of windows 15 year old andersen, 15 yo weathershield, 15 yo no name, 1 year old Andersen. I get ice on the weathershields, lots of water on the no names, little condensation on old Andersens and the new Andersens are bone dry... all in the same house. Problems are almost always due to poor installation but no one wants to pay the price it costs for a great install. Oh well....See MoreAndersen 200 Series Window Leak
Comments (14)Haven't been back to this site for awhile but got an e-mail from another Andersen window buyer - still looks like Andersen is selling windows that let the outside in. My Andersen 200 series double hungs are great at letting the sunshine in as well as dirt and snow. Oh well - we just huddle around the fireplace all winter and stick pins in our Andersen rep voodoo doll. Come visit anytime, but bring your own firewood and warm blankets! New advertising slogan for Andersen - "We Let The Outside In!" Don't believe me - I have photos! Don't buy Andersen Windows or you will be very sorry! They design these windows to fail and no amount of 'adjusting' will fix them. Buyer beware! Feel free to contact me for the real story about Andersen Windows.
