11 ft. ceilings / cabinets to the ceiling?
Comments (24)My mother has cabinets (modern looking in an older home) that go at least 11'--it might be 12'. My son (who is 6'5") needed a step ladder to reach something she wanted from one of the top cabinets. She basically has two ordinary wall cabinets stacked on top of each other. From my short vantage point, I didn't care for them going that high (although she doesn't have the glass or crown molding you're planning). I am a "form follows function" sort of person, and so don't care for unreachable storage. I have a cabinet above my refrigerator. I don't know what's in it. I couldn't possibly reach it. Given that, though, if you're going to go all the way up to the ceiling, it really is an attractive look with all of the glass and molding....See MoreNeed help - how to cover 16 ft window - pics included
Comments (13)thanks for all your great responses and kind comments on my room. We do enjoy our room! I am going to look into the anti-glare window tinting products. when I did an original search on anti-glare, it came up with a lot of computer screen products. I need to do a bit more searching. Boxerpups - thanks for posting all of those great inspiration pics. I am definitely not planning on making them myself. as I look at them, I like pics #1, #3 and the last one. I am a bit of a minimalist and too much pattern or frou frou is definitely not for me. What do you think is on the windows in pic #3? Some sort of roller shade? Also, do you think I can get roman shades like pic #1 in an 8 ft length? Do you have the source for those photos? maybe I can find out what the products are if I know where the pics came from. I also had another thought - we are planning to upgrade our basement from semi-finished to finished and it will be a great place for watching movies and football on a cold winter day. My husband and I were just down there this weekend discussing ideas for the upgrade. If I take the $$ that I would spend on a window treatment (which I think could end up being rather expensive) and get started on the basement remodel sooner rather than later, I can keep my undressed big window and my DH would still have a place to watch daytime TV (without a glare). After this thought, I called our contractor next door neighbor and left a message to get some estimates on the things we need done in our basement to make it comfortable. I am going to run this all by my husband and see what he thinks about getting started on the basement right away....See MoreWindow treatments for a box bay window in master bedroom?
Comments (5)I used a board-mounted box pleated valance on the box bay in my dining room. I screwed the board right into the soffit above the window. The way mine was framed, there wasn't enough room to hang a rod high enough to cover the top of the window trim. I made long panels of the same fabric for my living room windows. I used honeycomb shades on all the windows (not room darkening, but I did consider them). Most of the time I leave them up, but we don't have a guest room and the sleep sofa is in the living room, so privacy is an issue when we have overnight guests. Totally Confused...See MoreAny photos of Bay Window??
Comments (24)Heh heh you could see a view through those dirty windows? We do kind of like it here. And in the master suite that view is five levels up above the lake...just gorgeous and very private. How to describe that though...basically it's like a window seat, straight across the "bent" areas of the wall (so from window two through four in the above pic) built up to about 4' high. WOod on top, with the ability to open to the custom storage. The platform bed will tuck right up to it so it will look like it's part of the bed. We'll see how this works when the carpenter actually gets to work on it! I've NEVER seen it anywhere. I have posted here more than once asking for pics of beds in bay windows and gotten nothing. I have also searched the net and not found squat, so maybe it's a first, we'll just have to see. I'm still not sure how I'll handle window treatments (necessary in the summer when it's light 24/7) but I'm really looking forward to laying in bed in the winter and watching the northern lights from the comfy bed :)...See Moretorreykm
