pretty, Howard. Didn't know you grow cacti too, I have only 3...no blooms now.

"Finally some action..." That doesn't sound very appreciative ;-). I love cacti, especially the ones that combine beautiful spines with beautiful flowers. I can see the beauty and endless variety of haws, and there are a few I will try to get yet, but I do miss the beauty of flowers there. So for me it is mainly cacti and mesembs. Enjoy your mellow yellow!

I shovel pruned mine last spring. It is a pretty yellow and the blooms lasted average amount of time. The Japanese Beatles loved it and it was prone to BS even with spraying. After 2 or 3 growing seasons it was OK, but no "WOW" until fall.

Oh..I didn't realize that vera. The area I would plant it is pretty dry. Maybe I should rethink that choice. I don't have a moist area for a plant that large. It is such a pretty plant, I hope I can figure out a way to use it. Thanks vera! :-)

Don't change anything except for taking off the fruit; container Meyers have a bad reputation for being hard to care for; and everytime you change something the tree "faints". As for sun, the tree can't get too much sun; I grow them in full sun in the tropics and they love it... full production in 3 years. If you are going to put it in the ground, don't change anything until you decide where you want it; and then put it in the ground without fertilizing for at least 2 weeks, maybe a month. The absence of fertility encourages the feeder roots to grow in search of food; and after the roots grow, the top will grow, and that needs food. You might try applying a foliar fertilizer on a regular basis; all my garden trees get foliar every 15 days. I like Bayer Bayfolan Forte; a lot of folks here use Foliage Pro; and there are others, like Greenlight, etc.

The name is a mystery because there is quite a bit of info. to be found if you google Potinara Eye Candy. Doesn't matter all that much except if you received an AOS award it would not be recognised unless someone paid Ten pounds to register the name.....a bit difficult when the breeding details are unknown. Holiday Eye Candy was registered by Carter & Holmes in 2012 and it is doubtful that it is related to your orchid.

While I agree regarding the magnificence of flowers, I do enjoy my Haws.

And rightly so. I am astounded at the many forms and hybrids. I faithfully read the haw thread, because I find them fascinating. But as I have only so much room, I have to choose, and then for me it becomes a few haws, and mainly cacti and mesembs. I understand the wish for a haw forum, but I am secretly pleased that I can enjoy them on this forum, where I am a lot anyway.
