Mellow Yellow

Repotted Meyer Lemon around Two Months ago, did just fine for a short time even bloomed and produced fruit. Now it is has stopped blooming and all leaves have turned yellow. Some with a little bit of green splotches. The one or two fruits have not fully ripened and are just hanging.

We have been watering the plant roughly once a week, maybe twice depending on the heat. Fertaized about a month ago, according to instructions. Tree over a year old and is about 1.5 feet tall with 3-4 feet branch span. Soil is dry on top and hold a little moisture below... Still Struggling.

to be clear... I am very new at this stuff. The plant seemed to do fine for several months in its original pot from the nursury.

It is suffering from re-potting shock; and maybe also a big change in light conditions. Aside from that, if you continue to treat it well, it should reward you with a new crop of leaves. Take off whatever fruit you have; the tree is too small and it will put energy it needs for new leaves into keeping the fruit. Later you probably will want to change the potting soil to something easier to live with for container citrus; but not until it recovers fully. There are lots of container Meyer growers here who will give you more detailed advice. BTW, since you live in California, why not put the tree in the ground; Meyers are MUCH easier to keep happy in the ground.

The name is a mystery because there is quite a bit of info. to be found if you google Potinara Eye Candy. Doesn't matter all that much except if you received an AOS award it would not be recognised unless someone paid Ten pounds to register the name.....a bit difficult when the breeding details are unknown. Holiday Eye Candy was registered by Carter & Holmes in 2012 and it is doubtful that it is related to your orchid.

Gorgeous roses, Beth, like glittering gold - particularly cheering on a day of freezing rain! After seeing those, I need to get more yellows (if I had room, of course). Here's some I have. Here's WELCOME HOME, both the rose and a picture of the bush. Here's ETERNAL FLAME. And, here's CARAMELLA. I love the rose, but not the shrub, it is a gangly giant, and the foliage looks funny to me. Here's FRANCE INFO - another pretty big shrub, and it definately must be sprayed for blackspot! And, here's a Mini- BREATH OF SPRING: That's almost all my yellows, except for JULIA CHILD which Beth showed, and LEMON SPICE, which I don't have a picture of, and some nice climbers. I do have quite a few yellow blends, though. OK, let's see everybody elses!!

John- thanks for replying. Is this something where I should prune off the leaves or cut it back? Or just pull off the two infant fruits that are hanging. We haven't decided on a permanent spot for the Meyer, otherwise we would have put it in the ground. The leaves aren't dying just sort of hanging there... The whole tree seems to be on pause.

Any recommendations on preferred potting soils? Is the tree getting too much sun?

Don't change anything except for taking off the fruit; container Meyers have a bad reputation for being hard to care for; and everytime you change something the tree "faints". As for sun, the tree can't get too much sun; I grow them in full sun in the tropics and they love it... full production in 3 years. If you are going to put it in the ground, don't change anything until you decide where you want it; and then put it in the ground without fertilizing for at least 2 weeks, maybe a month. The absence of fertility encourages the feeder roots to grow in search of food; and after the roots grow, the top will grow, and that needs food. You might try applying a foliar fertilizer on a regular basis; all my garden trees get foliar every 15 days. I like Bayer Bayfolan Forte; a lot of folks here use Foliage Pro; and there are others, like Greenlight, etc.

I pulled the fruit and will apply the fertalizer late this evening, and cross my fingers!
