Any experience with Outdoor Mod Podge?
Comments (5)I used Outdoor ModPodge on a glass marble garden globe I made. I was testing it out as I wanted to sell them in a craft show. Good thing I did a test first. The first thing I noticed was that the ModPodge remained sticky. It just didn't dry. I did a little looking around their community board and this was mentioned and someone on that board said to just spray it with Krylon clear coat, which I did. That fixed that problem except where I got the Krylon on too thick it made the glass dull. The second thing that happened was about three weeks later. I had set the globe out in the garden exposed to a garden enviroment. I noticed that it looked dull, and when I went to pick it up, the ModPodge came off in a gooey mess. I managed to clean the stuff off the glass and save the marbles, but I had spent an awful lot of time on it! So I called the ModPodge company. The first thing they told me was that I wasn't supposed to use it for outside! I said that the jar I bought said "outside" in big letters and the site claimed that it was for outdoor use. She just ignored what I said and told me that putting it outdoors was my problem. So, don't put ModPodge for Outdoors on anything that you are going to leave outdoors. Comments (41)I've only been using LED downlights for about 9 months, but my oldest lamps, BR40s made by Lighting Science (both their Definity brand at 3000k and the Home Depot Ecosmart at 2700k) are going strong. Our au pair never turns out the lights, even on a bright sunny day, so these have been on for at least 16 hours a day (full blast for 8 or more hours a day, dimmed at night). Almost as old are two Phillips Airflux BR30s in 2700k and 5000k, and a Lighting Science Definity BR30 (GP30) at 4000k. The reason I went with LED in the first place because (1) we were going through halogens left-and-right (lights left on all day), (2) LEDs are dimmable, and (3) the halogens left on all day really warmed up the kitchen and family room. Right now I'm experimenting with Feit/Utlitech 22-watt (1350 lumen) BR40s in the basement. The previous owner had installed 65watt Br30s in the 6-inch cans, it was like a dungeon down there. As each bulb burns out, I'm replacing it with LEDS (also, the au pair never turns out the lights in the basement). They are WAY bright and dim well, but I've only had them for a month. One thing I have learned is that I definitely prefer 3000k over 2700k (2700k is too dingy), and 4000k over 5000k (5000k is too blue, and 4000k seems to be just right). So far, only Lighting Science seems to make bulbs in those colors. I did try a CREE CR6 (it didn't fit my cans), but I was unimpressed with the brightness and color....See MoreBarn Light website- any experience?
Comments (6)Yes, and they were fantastic to deal with! A little $$ but a great product! We purchased the outdoor lights for our carriage house garage that we built last year. It turned out that one of the colors was a perfect match for the trim on the garage. They have some of our pictures posted on their blog, but I will post one here for you. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again!...See MoreHELP - our 'adopted' outdoor cat won't user her home
Comments (20)I would consider installing a cat flap on a basement window and setting up an indoor enclosure for her in the basement that you could also access for cleaning or checkin up on her - is there a room or something you could block off with a door? Or if you have animals in the barn that would help keep it warm in there - put cat flap on the barn. It would be much more comfy in the long run for the kitty if she could have a comfy warm space somewhere -those winter nights get so long! She was obviously once someone's pet - she may not be cold so much as just wanting to be sociable and be inside with people. If she had been born a true feral you would not be able to get close to here without being shredded. Have you asked around to see if anyone's missing a cat? Of course it could be someone dumped her but you shouldnt assume that - its just as possible someone is heartsick at having lost her. (Im speaking as someone whose cat went missing for 6 wks)...See MoreKristin S
