How can I get an outdoor cat to use the house I've made?
Comments (36)Lots of things you can do. We have a small feral colony that we've fed and sheltered for a while now. We have a Shed In The Box, with interior smaller shelters inside there..and a five feet by 8 feet kennel that is tarped off for winter that has shelters up off the ground...however, when our ferals got caught a few weeks ago in our first very deep winter storm, they all ran scared and frightened up onto our back porch. So, we prayed and asked the Lord for his Guidance and Wisdom and he helped us. We got tarps and heavy duty shower curtains and heavy duty tension rods and paneled off the back porch...then, we put vinyl and rubber mats along the floor of the back porch. Then, we added cat igloos, and made other shelters out of Sterlite plastic chests...and made an interior tent over those shelters with a camoflauged tarp. When the temps dropped below freezing, we cracked the back door from the kitchen to let heat go out into the now enclosed back porch area...made a tremendous difference. Right now, it's sleeting and we are letting them come into the kitchen to get extra warmth, and we have litter boxes and fresh water in a corner of the porch as well. As someone has already mentioned, shoeboxes, cardboard boxes, cutout coolers with straw in them....cat igloos...we put yoga mats covered with soft cardboard in ours. The main things, give them a break from the wind, give them warm shelter, food, water, and a feeling of security...you're good to go. The more love you put into it, the better your results, you know. Good luck and God Bless. FYI, we also do trap n release and we are seniors in our late sixties, so if "we" can do it, so can anyone else, you know....See MoreMy cat won't eat or drink
Comments (93)What anguish I read these comments with. My beloved Maine Coon Cat at age ten gradually stopped eating after his requisite vaccinations. He gradually lost a third of his weight. I took him to the vet. Blood work was done. Palpations were done. He stopped eating, or, as far as I could tell, drinking. I was distraught, and, finally, on a weekend took him to the Pet hospital, where he is now. After reading many of these comments, I am very afraid. He is ten years old and we have had him since he was three weeks old. He is laid-back, thoughtful, and has command of much vocabulary. How can we get along without our beloved cat? He is to have an ultrasound tomorrow, and I shudder at what the news might be. . ....See MoreI adopted a cat
Comments (18)What a handsome kitty Dustin is! I applaud you for giving this sweet guy a second chance at a caring forever home. I know he won't disappoint you and you will have a loyal companion for life. Definitely get him neutered and vet checked. You also want to become established with a vet because things do arise with pets that need veterinary attention. You have received some great advice from the above posters, but I would like to mention a thing or two about his diet. Don't be afraid of feeding him canned food. Canned food is SO much better for cats than dry. I am giving you a link to a wonderful website that can explain it all better than I could here, but feeding a canned diet will help prevent many illnesses and diseases that occur from a cat eating dry food. It took my one of cats becoming diabetic to get me educated in feline nutrition and in the past year I have learned so much and now all my cats are so much healthier because of it. Also another fun website you might like to consider joining is Catster. You can make Dustin his own web page and join in the various discussions in the forums. It's a fun group of people that share the common bond of being true feline lovers. I hope you and Dustin enjoy many happy, healthy years together. If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help any way I can. Janet Here is a link that might be useful: Feeding Your Cat...See MoreWhy We Don't and WON'T use our Miele Optima Dishwasher
Comments (20)Here is the post from the user that asked about where the Kitchen Window should be: Posted by firstyeargardener (My Page) on Mon, Mar 23, 09 at 23:52 Hi, I'm in the middle of planning a kitchen remodel. We are thinking of moving the sink to the back of the kitchen where we have a large window overlooking the yard. My question is, how will this look? The window is considerably larger than the sink? Will it look off centre? I'd appreciate any pictures of large windows with sinks beneath them. Thanks As I had already posted picures of the bay window above the sink, I thought the 2 pictures I posted would at least give "A different view of things" and maybe some inspiration as to why they might consider moving that window. We love the view from the Window. I had a dear friend that was renting a small Condo, She said "Someday I want to live where I have a window over the sink and enjoy the view---fortunately We were able to help her as our tenants moved out of one of our townhouses we rent--that had such a view , and I rented it to her for 14 years , until She passed away from Lung Cancer. So I guess to many people a kitchen with a view is important? Anyway One learns a lot from making a post as I did. You learn who "Stops and Smells the roses" and those that¿ Gary Here is a link that might be useful: Post about Kitchen Window...See MoreUser
