Anyone interested in a decluttering challenge?
Comments (66)Moving update ... after spending the summer getting the new house re-plastered it's back to packing and decluttering. So let's get this challenge under way again. The criteria is "Do I want to pay to move and store this?" If the answer is no, it goes. 13 boxes (Trader Joes wine boxes are wonderful for this) to the local charity book sale, 2 boxes of bookends to the same source. One antique, lovely, but rickety cupboard to a local charity boutique for display furniture. Chair to them too. Clothing purged (again) with more donations. One bathroom purged of outdated stuff and drawers and cabinets cleaned. I'm marking them with a tag of blue painter's tape as a signal that it's DONE and that I shouldn't use it. Kitchen blind cabinets emptied and unused appliances and cookware from them to charity. Quick pass through garage for a couple of tools we don't need. Still to go ... yet more books to purge/donate and pack....See MoreUp for the Challenge?
Comments (3)I think one of the things to do is get through your garage sale. They are a lot of work and will free up your thinking to move ahead on decorating. My first thought was to move the large armoire to the wall where the white cabinet is. There is a need to go up in some areas and also sight lines when entering your home. With all going on, remove as much furniture as possible from one room at a time and rethink placement. You can lay boxes of their size and get a feeling of walkways, etc. What is it about the couch you do not like. Taking out the corner piece would give you more room space. I am actually intrigued by your furniture and know there are others here that will really help out. You already have your colors in the paintings to work with. Consider a flip top dining table. The are long and narrow, but can be opened to double their size. The tops flip over the main table top and eliminate needing room for chairs to be placed when closed. I have two, one a coffee table and another the dining. They save so much room, but come the rescue for company. Ran a search, but too many different base styles and not sure what you are considering. Great house, I really like the layout and possibilities. Will enjoy other's take on working with you....See MoreAnother window challenge
Comments (17)Thanks for all your comments and nice words! The paint is called Wise Owl from Kelley Moore, a regional paint company. I think it's available here in Washington, in California, Texas and a couple other states. LOL natal. Yes, that's a window lock. All six windows are functioning, opening windows which is kind of silly. The one that is closest to the "bridge" can be opened but the others would require a ladder and a lot of bravery. I know the builder's guys enjoyed having them open during construction so they could have some cross ventilation but we won't be opening them any time soon. While I love the idea of spraying the windows, we definitely will not climb ladders as we both have a fear of heights. (Guess you missed the thread about our 17' high smoke detector when the batteries ran low. DH wanted to shoot it--and he's very anti-gun.) Needless to say we don't have a 30' extension ladder but it's a great suggestion for normal people. Squirrelheaven, I'll have to think about that idea some more. If the sheers won't cut down on light they might work. And they'll look nice from the outside too. As for the cost of the remote control thingy, I think if he wants it badly enough, he won't care how much it costs. We differ a lot on that point....See MoreAnyone up for another fashion challenge?
Comments (0)I have a work event - a ribbon cutting ceremony that will take place both outside and inside and where I will be in a "host" role. It is in August in Florida. Think really hot and really humid. I will have pre and post event responsibilities in addition to a speaking role and in many photo and video ops. I need to be cool and comfortable. I'm starting to stress about what to wear...let alone how to keep my hair from looking like a hot mess. I would typically wear a suit but my best suits are knits or a black tropical weight wool that is either dress/jacket or jacket/pants. None of these options are good. I have considered a white pant suit or a simple dress. Simple Dress I am 5'2" and curvy. Jackets need to be well cut and structured to work with my 34D chest. This group always rises to a fashion challenge so I hope you can help me with this one - thanks!...See MoreUser
