Preparing for Winter in the Marginal Zones

Despite that it's only May, I'm already turning the gears about what I'm going to do next winter. I was going to ask those in marginal Zones 8a, 8b, 9a if any of you considered lifting your plants and taking them inside your home - either hang them or pack them? Then I saw today, Marie, that you are already doing that, into the garage:

"Yes, all my DR will be in garage, but this year I will uproot them. In
winter of 2014 first time I uproot them, but I packed them so tight in
boxes and many got rot. My friends uproot, wash/dry and lay them flat on
shelves. It seem to work, so I will do the same this year."

Marie, did you do the same for winters 2015 and 2016? How did it work out for you? I hope you didn't lose any!

How about others who live in marginal zones?

I don't have grow lights and we do get hard freezes and frosts in Jacksonville, so I will need to do something. I have a fairly large laundry room with lots of bars for hanging clothes. I'm thinking of hanging my adenium in there for maybe November - February?

Thanks!
