Flagstone patio for Tabardca
Comments (5)Well, thankfully my neighbors are too far away to hear me talking to the fish! lol And yes, some do have names. The largest calico coloured one in the middle(a shebunkin) is named Big Mama, because I was able to watch when they were spawning and she was the one to lay the eggs. These eggs stuck on the roots of a water hyacinth, so I put the whole thing in an ice cream pail and ended up having 200 babies! That was last October, and the number is down to about 15 now....much more manageable. The other named one is the black and orange one and he's called Blackie. He started out all black and it's taken 2 years for him to get the colour he has now. I started out 3 years ago with a tiny pond, just half of a rain barrel and most of the larger fish are from that. I do bring them in for winter, but with the babies growing so fast I think I may need another tub for this winter. Tabardca, you sure are the ultimate do it yourselfer! Sounds like you've been busy for awhile. Building your own house, wow! It seems we always have a project on the go too. Most of the winter we've been renovating inside the house, and by spring we're more than ready to move to the outside jobs! Thanks everyone for the complements. This project turned out pretty much like I wanted, although I had envisioned a lot more rock......DH drew the line at bringing in a bulldozer though! Comments (14)Laurie, there is a LOT of satisfaction in being able to point to something pretty and say "**I** did that!" Not to mention that it's cool to acquire skills. Maybe the biggest perk of do-it-yourself (besides saving money) is being able to get *exactly* what you want, when you want it (even at 3:00 AM). I love the independence of knowing how to do that. And finally, when you're done you have a one-of-a-kind treasure. If you prefer to buy (nothing wrong with that if you can afford it), why not just call Michaels and/or art a gallery or a U-Frame-It place, and tell them what you're looking for? Or even contact a local artist (CL has those too). Print out your inspiration pic. and drop by and hand it to them and discuss it with them in person. You could specify botanicals, or landscapes, or seascapes, or whatever you like. You could also drop off some family pix you love. Any of them would probably be very happy to whip up exactly what you want....See MoreIs it Possible to Buy Foam without PBDEs (Flame Retardant)
Comments (7)Tinan, the article you link says only two of the three main commercal PBDEs were banned in 2006. The other may have been banned by now, but I expect that it would be very difficult to find furniture cushions without any flame retardant. It's a conundrum-chemical-free, but able to catch fire and burn rapidly (remember those videos of how quickly a sofa can go up in flames?) or flame retardants and we end up with the chemicals in our bodies. No easy answer. I personally would want to side with fewer chemicals and a cleaner environment....See MoreNeed an Upholsterer Recommendation
Comments (9)You're welcome! Please let me know if either of them are still in business. Be prepared that they may ask you if you will be needing any new foam cushion inserts. Be prepared that the longer lasting foam inserts can be pricey. If you go to the A-1 Foam & Fabric link below and search the site, there is a chart and good explanation of the various densities and firmness types. I recently bought 2 very firm inserts (for a love seat) from them. They are located in Santa Ana. I just also remembered that there is an upholstery shop connected to their main building. In addition, when I was driving there, I saw a couple of other upholstery shops within a 1/2 mile from them on the same street where they are located (Main Street).
