Someone told me to soak your plants with cold water as the sun rises in the early morning, and it should help save your plants from frost damage. I don't know how true it is, I've never tried. We have mature fully leafed out maples all around our house, where the majority of my plants are, their canopy should and usually does protect my plants from frost, so I'm not too worried about my perennials. Even so, I may get up and look outside, and soak the plants if necessary. None of my annuals have been planted out, so they're all in the garage. Not taking any chances on $100 worth of annuals getting fried. It'll be another couple weeks before they get planted anyway, so hopefully no more of this frost nonsense. Karen

Some of my trees got zapped, my Willow oak and Compton's oaks seemed to be affected the worst. They were downslope from the other oaks, though. My Durand oak was okay, although on low ground. My tender veggies got annihilated, but are easy to replace.

I had a touch of frost on my back windshield this morning. ==>>> i am not feeling it brandy... i woke up to 3 inches of snow.. lol .. do understand.. i am not always talking to the poster.. but the the legions of newbies.. who never join the conversation ... you acted.. accordingly ... i know you knew the difference.. i wanted to point it out to warmer zone peeps.. who might not be understanding about the difference in the two words ... prairie... most shrubs.. as bulletproof as they are.. can lose all their leaves.. and bounce right back .. or like last year for me.. all the lilacs lost their flower buds... and they all came back fine... so.. i missed some flowers.. and many of the fruit growers around... lost a crop ... but not much direct death ... so its a concern.. but not a worry.. if you get my drift ... one year.. i actually lost some hosta.. that got froze.. after leafing a bit.. recovered.. froze again ... and perhaps a third time... they only have so much stored energy to releaf on ... but they were probably sickly plants in the first place... and all of them took a year or two to recover.. but nothing like that with some frost damage ... ken

My cucumbers finally died. Last night killed them. They are in the compost bin now. Happily, the broccoli and peas are okay. The peas looked a little unhappy, but I think they'll survive. When we got in late last night, I went right out and clipped all my basil. I'm sure I was a sight in my black cloak (costume) clipping herbs out of the garden on Halloween. I'm glad I did, because the pesto is really delicious. I love fall.
