I am so sorry! Is this the brother that just lost his wife?

I'm an only child so I've never experienced this, but it has to be heartbreaking for your entire family, especially your mother and your brother's son. I'm so sorry.

Oh my goodness. I am so sorry. So this is the brother that you wrote us about last week, with the drug problems? And now the children have lost their biological mother, your father's girlfriend , and their father all in such a short time? What an incredible tragedy. I am glad that the children are with you, and I know that you know that they will need ongoing emotional and therapeutic professional care. I don't know whether they will be staying with you or with your parents or other family for the rest of their formative years, but I pray for them .

Please, when the time is right for you (and your mother), seek out a support group or pastoral care. Addiction is a disease that affects the whole family.

My ex was also found dead when our daughter was a young teen. She wanted nothing more than to act as if nothing had happened. Unfortunately she never would participate in any kind of support or therapy, and I believe it affects her negatively to this day.

What a tragic waste of three lives. Do we presume your brother OD'd?

raee_ I'm sorry about your family's loss and that your DD is not facing it well. :( One nephew took years to talk about his mom whom he lost as a young teen.

We all continued to remember her even when he was around and have lots of pictures of her on the wall with written comments below about her. I think that helped him to open up when ready. In the last 2 years he's begun to join us in remembering her happy times. We lost her too soon to breast cancer.

I'm so sorry for the continued trauma you and your family are enduring. Those children have been through some frightening and heart-rending experiences so I too hope you can find grief counseling for them, even though they may not appear to need it. My brother-in-law's wife died in her early 30's from cancer and the kids appeared to be ok. However, deeply buried feelings need to surface eventually in order for healing to happen, and those now-grown kids have been able to talk through their grief over the years--they're close with their dad and other maternal relatives who live near them. When we get to visit I try to talk about their mom with laughter--she was a funny gal--and they easily talk about her as well. I truly believe it's nature's way to keep young kids appearing as if they are ok; a bleating baby deer without its mama will not last long. This heroin crisis is horrendous and I'm so sorry your family has been part of it. You have my prayers.
