Save my plants/help me identify them
Comments (9)Jumping in & out of the forum today, so rushed response... Like some of what others have said: smaller pots, change your soil to better draining mix. Learn the needs of individual plants, once you know the names (for instance, Lithops have totally different care-search this forum for advice from more knowledgeable people than I). You will probably find you can give them more water than what you have been...but then, as you have them as houseplants (I would not recommend)...watering may have to be adjusted. Closer pix of plants would help to ID them. One pot at a time would be great. What I figure for IDs from this pic: Lg pot: 3 cactus ~1 is a Moon Cactus, Gymnocalycium mihanovichii grafted onto a stock cactus, need better pic for ID on other 2. Single cactus: could be Mammillaria, or possibly Parodia ~need better pic. Middle pot: possibly a stapeliad & Haworthia...better pic please. Sedum burrito & maybe an Echeveria A Sempervivum or Orostachys Maybe Sedum nussbaumerianum (the 2 leaf start-yellow) 3 Lithops Echeveria 'Topsy Turvy' I'll be back to see if more pix uploaded. =)...See MorePlease help me save our family's fig tree.
Comments (9)Wow, that looks seriously bad, especially after 3 years. The large cuts might have let some disease in, that the tree is fighting now. But since your goal is to save your ancestor's tree, did you know figs are REALLY easy to start from cuttings? You can just start a new tree, which might be able to outgrow any disease. Normally you would want to do it when they are dormant, but you could still try now if you think it is dying!!! You take at least one (but I would do at 5) 6 inch branches and clip off all the leaves, leaving the little top sprout. Dip it in fungicide or a light bleach solution, then wrap the top half in a damp paper towel, leaving a few inches on the bottom free. Dip the bottom in rooting hormone, put the whole thing in an empty sports/ water bottle with the spout lid on, but open, and put the bottle somewhere warm but NOT where it gets sun (top of the water heater is perfect) Check it periodically to see that it is damp, but not wet or dry, and soon you should see little white roots coming out of the bottom and the leaves on the top starting to go. When you have nice little roots you can plant it in very light potting mix kept moist but not wet, out of the sun still, with a plastic bog lightly over the top until it is growing well. It's worth a shot for your family heirloom! Carla in Sac...See MorePlease help me save my mango tree!
Comments (5)It was hard to dig up to be honest. We finally got the one big root that was holding it in. We didn't break that one but lots of the small roots around it broke off. God I'm praying for doesn't die!...See MoreHelp me save my lollipop trees
Comments (4)for a plant with that size of trunk ... i would have tried to dig a root mass ... at least double what is seen in that pot .. if not 3 times ... by which point.. i would not have been able to get it out of the old location .. lol ... due to shear weight ... let alone drag it to a new home.. and pot it up ... though.. looking at the first pic.. due to the pool .... there might not have been enough space to get more of the roots ... ken...See MoreLogan L Johnson
