Okna 400 windows v. Soft-Lite Pro
Comments (65)My advice to everyone I talk to is that they should purchase the best window that they can which fits into their budget. The only caveat to that, is the folks that do not have a realistic budget to begin with, but that is not a problem here. Ultimately, you are spending $5k give or take. A difference of a few hundred dollars is going to be very small if not irrelevant in the grand scheme when you take into consideration the size of the purchase and the fact that you have to live with these windows for the next X number of years. If you have the windows for 20 yrs, that is a difference $2 and change per month, or $32 per yr. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem to make much sense to base this choice on price. My advice: Pick the window that you like better from the installation company that you like better. Easy as that. You won't go wrong either way on product (installer is another matter, but we can't really offer much on that without knowing the companies in question). Easy enough ;)...See MoreSimonton 5500 vs higher end (Okna, sunrise, soft lite)
Comments (24)WOW: "When a window is Gold Label certified, it is supposed to be a representative sample of the window submitted for testing." Gold Label/Hallmark test sizes are not worst case in terms of the air infiltration calc...the smallest size typically is. The difference can be be pretty large, and some companies base advertising on this worst case size scenario, some don't. Also, some companies may seek that the claim has statistical validity (as in some sort of confidence interval), leading them to publish lower performing numbers in general. (Others just test just a few units, which can result in a higher claim). Also, some companies take liberties with the phrase "representative," interpretating it to mean prepresentative of design intent, not necesarily production...the part size and placement variation that occurs over the production of many units can have large impact on air infiltration performance. Without ensuring that the exact same approach is used, it's misleading to compare the numbers......See Moredeciding between okna 500, softlite imperial ls, and the vytex potomac
Comments (6)I am also trying to determine between soft lite imperial Ls and vytex potomac. I know i am late, does the OP have any info or any pro’s ? The two of those windows look at be very energy efficient and seem to be made very well. One thng i noticed was the vytex potomac seemed to look a little nicer? Both had a nice design on the sash but the vytex was a little more narrow ( more glass). The potomac also had a “ magnetic seal”. The imperial did not have that option but did have every other option. The two seemed very close. any opinions here and am i missing anything? Both were prices somewhat closely but the vytex was cheaper by $560. 14 windows in total. vytex being 565 per window and the imperial being 605 per window. Both are duel pane glass with argon and foam filling in the window....See MoreSliding Patio Door: Sunrise, Okna, Soft-lite
Comments (6)As the others have said, you have 3 great options here, take your pick based on product. The knock down frame on the Sunrise isn't a deal breaker, its a very nice door, but I do prefer a welded frame for the same reason vinyl windows have welded frames. Vinyl moves more that other materials, and mechanically fastened joints can open up over time. That said, that's not a complaint that seems to come up with that door. Its a nice product with some neat features, as are the other two. I'll add this, take a closer look at the companies offering the installation. Look at their reputation and ratings online, history, time in business, BBB ratings, compare install details, professionalism and trustworthiness. Those items are worth FAR more than a $500 premium if they lead you to one of the more expensive options, or if those indicators point to the cheaper guy, then thats just a bonus for you. These products are close enough that I'd choose based on the installation company if I were you....See Morekellymou77
