Sliding Patio Door: Sunrise, Okna, Soft-lite

Considering purchase of a sliding patio door and would like to get opinions on our options. Because of the current situation we are unable to go to any showroom and look at the door options so we are doing our research online. I'm a little nervous making a decision without seeing most of these doors in person, but it is what is. The only door option below that I have personally seen is the Andersen option.

We have an existing 72 x 80 wood sliding patio door. It's south facing so whatever door we choose will get full sun exposure from about 10am to 5pm in the summertime.

I have quotes for a Marvin Elevate (fiberglass) door at $5000 and an Andersen 400 Frenchwood for $2200 (prices include installation). I was originally looking at these doors due to the sun and heat that the door is exposed to for part of the year.

However, after doing some more research, I believe that a well-installed, quality vinyl door will perform as well or even better with the heat and sun exposure (I understand that the vinyl doors will be more energy efficient overall).

I have 3 vinyl-door quotes with installation.

Sunrise Restoration = $2900

Okna Elegante = $2900

Soft-Lite Kingsroyal = $2400

All three doors are sold by reputable installers. I understand that out of those 3, the Okna us probably the best door in terms of performance/build with the Kingsroyal a close second. I am leaning towards the Kingsroyal due to the very good price .

I personally think the Sunrise slider is nicer than that the Provia in this comparison. The Hinged patio or French equivalent of the Provia door would be more expensive as a standard when compared to their slider variant. Most folks have the idea that the French is a more premium door than a slider but the slider works better for most people because it does not encroach into the roof vs. and Inswing French and it has a screen as a standard whereas an Oustswing will not.

I try not to comment too much on price due to the fact that there are so many variables, but I'd have to agree with window1 that this is a good price even for the most basic of units.... For reference, the higher lines of Sunrise (Restorations and Vanguard) and Provia (Endure) are very good and would have been the apples to apples comparison as opposed to the economy lines.

I think the forester is basically the regular Okna door but with hbutt joined welds. Norenndax is a abc label now . Probably a pretty small company if they are buying through abc and nothing to write home about. Sunrise is a nice door. Okna is also nice. Avoid jeldwen. Marvin infinity is nice but the price is high and they can be air leakers. The price for the Provia may be on the high side as well especially for a general contractor . I’d focus on Sunrise or Okna.

Thanks to both of you for the input. I was leaning towards the Elegante but the price on the Kingsroyal is hard to pass up.

All four installers (the Soft-Lite vendor also installs Andersen) have been responsive and helpful.

Better numbers in what? If one is looking at U values I think Soft-Lite and Okna would reign , then Sunrise Then Andersen. Going by the almighty air Infiltration number things could change and I wouldn’t know the order by I have seen some pretty good. Numbers listed by Andersen. I think Sunrise uses a knock down frame which some do not like. Price wise the price on the Andersen is definitely a bargain considering it typically cost more for dealers to purchase.

As the others have said, you have 3 great options here, take your pick based on product. The knock down frame on the Sunrise isn't a deal breaker, its a very nice door, but I do prefer a welded frame for the same reason vinyl windows have welded frames. Vinyl moves more that other materials, and mechanically fastened joints can open up over time. That said, that's not a complaint that seems to come up with that door. Its a nice product with some neat features, as are the other two.

I'll add this, take a closer look at the companies offering the installation. Look at their reputation and ratings online, history, time in business, BBB ratings, compare install details, professionalism and trustworthiness. Those items are worth FAR more than a $500 premium if they lead you to one of the more expensive options, or if those indicators point to the cheaper guy, then thats just a bonus for you.

These products are close enough that I'd choose based on the installation company if I were you.
