New construction: Okna or Sunrise or Soft Lite
Comments (8)Let me just say this, you are looking at three great options. You really won't go wrong with any of the three. That said, my assessment above is independent of pricing. The softlite and okna are both a step up form the sunrise in double hung form, and my own personal preference is the okna. One thing I didn't mention earlier is that it can vary somewhat once you get to casements. The sunrise casement is probably the nicest, followed closely by the okna and then the softlite. The softlite has the least amount of glass, which is probably the only real knock against any of them....See MoreSimonton 5500 v. Soft-Lite Pro (replacement and new )
Comments (6)Excellent advice from Ultrawindows. The shine has worn off of Softlite a bit for many contactors due to their recent handling of situation such as above. Search Gorell on this forum and you'll find many homeowners that were left high and dry on warranty coverage despite the fact that Softlite is/was still selling the good name and product of Gorell. Similar situation with Stanek and Great Day. On product alone, keep in mind that the version of the SL casement sold as anything but their top lines is intentionally downgraded in the form of actually removing layers of weatherstripping etc. Ultimately, you could certainly do worse than that product, but I would choose the Okna personally and decisively. In addition to the performance advantage, the Okna will provide more glass space and is arguably more attractive....See MoreOkna 400 & 500 vs. Vytex Fortis
Comments (3)Depending on where you are located, prices can vary. The Fortis will be more comparable to the okna 500. The fortis exterior profile and the 500 are very similar. The fortis interior is very similar to the soft lite imperial but less bulky....See MoreI can't find an Okna, Soft-lite dealer anywhere!
Comments (18)I concur that finding dealers and showrooms is very difficult for the upper tier vinyl windows. I could not find a decent okna dealer here in MN and had to use google to find local sunrise dealers. When i contacted Sunrise, they gave me one dealer. I then replied saying these are who I found, can you just give me a list of all the dealers in your area, and he replied that one of my listed dealers was highly regarded. I was taken aback and told him that I dont understand your logic here. Dont you want to sell your windows? You’re making it difficult for would be customers to get access to your products. I’d like to look ay all of your area dealers to get some quotes and get a feel for their workmanship before I commit to anything. He never did provide me with a list of dealers. Fortunately, I liked one of the dealers and his price... but they make it more difficult than it needs to be. Best of luck. Use Google to your advantage. I looked at every high rated window dealer in my area, scoured their sites, called, or emailed to see if they were a dealer for the windows I wanted....See MoreHomeSealed
