Okna 400 windows v. Soft-Lite Pro
Comments (65)My advice to everyone I talk to is that they should purchase the best window that they can which fits into their budget. The only caveat to that, is the folks that do not have a realistic budget to begin with, but that is not a problem here. Ultimately, you are spending $5k give or take. A difference of a few hundred dollars is going to be very small if not irrelevant in the grand scheme when you take into consideration the size of the purchase and the fact that you have to live with these windows for the next X number of years. If you have the windows for 20 yrs, that is a difference $2 and change per month, or $32 per yr. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem to make much sense to base this choice on price. My advice: Pick the window that you like better from the installation company that you like better. Easy as that. You won't go wrong either way on product (installer is another matter, but we can't really offer much on that without knowing the companies in question). Easy enough ;)...See MoreOkna v Simonton v Vytex
Comments (24)I agree a brick and mortar store are a must. As we all know you can still have condensation even with an Okna, at least that is what everyone is telling me. I am very familiar with the Simonton's performance data on their website. Those performance numbers are outdated though. The updated numbers for a 36x63 are either 0.19 and 0.21.I have seen other sizes used by different companies, Soft-Lite use a 44x63 in some and Gerkin uses a 48x72 and a 44x60.Okna is vague and does post the size and states that actual values may vary depending on installation, size of window and other conditions. To say the least, air infiltration claims seem to have no set standards. Would be interesting to see test results posted by others the way Simonton does....See MoreOkna 500 vs. Simonton 5500
Comments (36)We are trying to narrow things down between Okna 500, Vytex Fortis, and Soft-lite Pro (or maybe LS). They all seem to be energy-efficient "enough," so our primary factors will probably be the final negotiated cost, aesthetics, and ease of use/operability. Unfortunately, I have not been able to see all three windows side-by-side. If I could compare them side-by-side, what differences would be obvious? For instance, the Vytex rep said that the Soft-lite Imperial LS has significantly more vinyl (more bulky?) than the Fortis? Is this true? If so, how does the Okna stack up? Any other deciding factors?...See MoreSimonton 5500 vs. Soft Lite Classic
Comments (3)$1000 for how many Windows? Probaly not worth the difference, perhaps look at the Soft-Lite Pro , LS, and the Element, they keep getting better the higher you go up. Element being top tier. I'd consider sash reinforce the on the 2 Windows you listed as worthwhile cost effective options....See More- 9 years ago
