3. About 3 years. First year, no blooms, just growth. Second year, spring only. Third year, some summer blooms. Reached about 6-7 feet tall in its second year, not much taller since.

4. Didn't fertilize at all the first three years. That third year, I redid my irrigation system, and it didn't get any water until I wondered why it was doing so poorly.

6. Like all roses, be sure it has enough water if you grow it in a dry climate. Flowers do not tolerate well the strong dry winds we get, browning on the edges. Buds drop in late frosts. They also lose their shape in summer heat. I detect a light apple fragrance.

What a stunning rose! Perhaps I'll keep mine in the pot it's in - I have a similar deck that I could train it on. Thanks for the inspiration!

Summersrythym, I found that the thicker the canes got the more hardy it was. I never pruned it because a huge rambler was growing into it and the older canes were just impossible to get to.

I was just going to plant my potted 7' tall Eden in the garden, then I saw your potted Eden. I might keep mine in a pot longer, I noticed it bloomed more in a pot than it was in the garden.

Altorama, thanks for the tip. I am going to wait for thicker canes then put it in the garden, maybe in the fall.

I am loving all the photos and video of Eden. It seems like time, grafting and maybe being in a pot, sun, and fertilizer are be all factors in getting it to bloom sooner and heavier for this beautiful Diva?

Mine is in a pot and I may need to keep it that way due to nematodes here. I am glad to know it can still bloom and be beautiful. I am going to find it a pretty permanent pot like towandazz's. Lowes had some pretty ceramic ones when I was there the other day.

Looking forward to more posts and more photos as hopefully our Edens all bloom and mature and more Eden owners (or does she own us? lol) find this thread.

SJN, the hummers haven't tried to feed from Eden's blossoms, but they are hungry little guys in my yard.

My first Eden was purchased during Heirloom's sale in January 2016, and received late February 2016 This one has been in my garden for just over a year. It is growing in raised planter, southern exposure, where it receives sun for the most of the day. It really is a baby...

Sorry, many of you may have seen this image, but Eden did not do much at all during its first year in terms of bloom creation, so no images were captured. This image, from my first Spring flush, is really all I have. I fertilized it with rose tone Mid-February.

I was pulling weeds around my baby eden today and low and behold I found 2 buds way down low to the ground! I hope my big fat roosters dont see them. They will gobble them up! I pushed a potted gardenia against it right after I snapped these pics so maybe they wont find them.

Got mine own root from Heirloom. Planted it morning sun.

No blooms first season but 2nd year it grew quite large and bloomed some. No rebloom. I moved it in heat of summer to morning shade and afternoon partial shade. I used Vitamin B for transplanting and did not lose any of it.

This is the third year and I did not need to prune much dead cane at all after winter. It has many more buds now.

This photo only shows part of the bush. I am pillaring it around a wisteria tree in the pot in front of it. Hope it will reblooms but I am not expecting it to.

I have read on these forums that Eden prefers alkaline soil so I have been applying dolomitic lime instead of gypsum for calcium. I also hear that it is a heavy feeder. I also give it alfalfa meal, azomite and starting this year coop poop (chicken manure) +monopotassium phosphate instead of last year's miracle gro bloom booster). I will say that before I knew any thing about fertilizers the first year I mainly gave it MG bloom booster every 2-4 weeks.

Now I try to stay organic. I have never sprayed with chemicals except with sulphur or neem oil occasionally.

KS, Eden is beautiful cascading over the fence like that. Wow!! She grew a lot in a year.

Desertgarden, Eden looks amazing for being in a hot area with a stone planter and a block wall as well. She must be pretty heat tolerant..more than I thought she was which is a plus!

I'm doing an experiment of sorts with a bare root Eden from DA and a bare root that is own root (but huge) from Edmunds. I got them a few weeks apart (The Edmunds Eden is a few weeks older than the DA Eden). The Edmunds Eden has a Star roses tag on it. They are both in pots for now till they earn their keep. I want to see if they bloom more and are more vigorous than the own root I have which is still small and has only put out a few tiny blooms. I'm pretty sure the bare roots will grow more but will they bloom more? That is the probably the real question lol.

I also got a Pretty in Pink Eden (the sport of Eden) from Edmunds, bare root, which is also in a pot. I have heard this PIPE is more vigorous and blooms a lot more than the original Eden diva.

I also ordered a own root White Eden which will be small band size. I wanted a large bare rooted White Eden but I couldn't find any. Anyone else have the White Eden and is it more vigorous than the original Eden?

You might say I went Eden Crazy this spring.

Pretty in Pink Eden

Thats great totoro. I hope it starts making buds for you soon. I spotted 2 buds on my old own root Eden which is still small.

My pretty in Pink Eden is the most leafed out, of the 3 grafted Eden I recently bought. They all have much more leaves than when I took the photos. We were 31F last night so once it is staying warmer at night hopefully they will start growing faster.

Well, my 2 own root edens must just be duds. After 3 years in a good sunny spot they have yet to bloom. The new dawns planted next to them at the same time are both 8-10 feet tall and the edens might have made it up to my knees this past season. I have lots of space so I can afford to let them be and hope they come to life eventually, so maybe in a few years I'll be able to report something positive.

My own root gallon size Eden stayed small the 1st year in the ground, didn’t look like it did much, probably putting down some roots. The 2nd year it grew a few large canes, one or two grew in a direction that I could start to train. Spars blooms, less than 10 that 2nd year. I left all the large canes alone, even untrainable ones, to allow the plant to bulk up. This year, the 3rd year, it put out lots of lateral buds earlier in Feb/March and is blooming now.

Totoro, in general around 8hrs, it’s longer in the summer, shorter in winter, but spring is around 8.

by the way, if you don’t mind me asking, is your nickname referencing Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro?

I am sure that I would get more blooms from my Eden if I had left it in it's original sunnier location. But I did not want to give up the prime location for a once (maybe twice) bloomer.

Yes love that movie. I also love Totoro's globular shape. Can you tell I also love deep cupped blooms?

totoro congrats on the buds! My Eden from David Austin has 3 buds. Pretty quick since I just planted it this spring. I think the bare roots will definitely be faster here.

Sjn, thanks! Yes, those you see at the bottom are the canes I couldn’t tie. They grew rather horizontally on their own. I left them there to produce blooms and help feed itself. I don’t plan to prune them out until the plant gets bigger/taller.

Hi jc !! I found my best pics , again get it grafted and don’t forget or you will be twiddling your thumbs for a while waiting :) I think I have complained about it’s slow growth every year for 4 years !

I can really recommend earth angel for similar shaped blooms with a touch of pink and fragrance to die for . It’s a shru though and incredibly healthy . Also nahema is an excellent climber, with cupped blooms and some are pink on mine and sometimes white from the heat but sooo lovely either way . Hasn’t really stopped blooming all summer !!

Wow, beautiful pictures! Mine is from Star roses, and I think it’s grafted. Even though it hasn’t bloomed since the few flowers that came with it, it looks pretty big now.

Aw man, this is the hard part. I don’t really need more than one and frankly, I would probably hate myself to having to take care of too many “extras”.

I am really looking for a blush colored, cupped climber I think. Large shrub is OK too. Bigger the better.

Lily what would you recommend in our climate? I think I’ve read a lot of good reviews about Nahema on here. Your Eden looks like catalog photos! Sorry to keep taking advantage of your advice!

Jc , I’m so happy to have a neighbor so close by ! :) ( well close for the internet) . I really love nahema. It’s perfectly healthy, fragrant , cupped pink and blooms all season. Eden is not an all season bloomer and it is not perfect in health . And no fragrance, I do think the folks in CA are blessed there to grow it so well but not here. Of course it really could just be my plant and location!

Darn . I wish I had more to share but I have a lot of pink roses and I’m having a hard time figuring who is who right now . I have got to label pics when I take them! I’ll try to do better this week , I know mine have buds on them .

I'll help you out Lily Finch! My Nahema was overwintered from a small cutting and is suddenly putting on lots of growth in its pot. I had one bloom early on and was wondering what the big deal was until this last bloom. Wowza! This is one of the most beautiful roses ever and the fragrance is divine. Run, don't walk to get this one! The bud is not that large but the flower is substantial and the bloom lasts for a very long time on the bush. Of course, I'm just judging off one flower, but I was impressed! It's killing me to pinch off the other buds .

Totoro, I think Nahema is slow to get started and s delicate until that point. This is my second try which is why I'm disbudding; I'm not taking any chances! I am going to try rooting another one from this as I need two for my Arbor.

Lilly Finch, Eden is beautiful and was worth the wait! I go back and forth on this one. It's one of those beautiful ones that's worth the trouble, but I'll wait and see how Dreamland does first.

Vapor I hope yours pulls through and is really good to you next year! I had overwintered mine in my garage and it was very stressful as I didn’t want to have to find them again. Jc if you decide to get nahema , a good vendor is palantine ( they also carry Eden ) and the rootstock is incredibly vigorous.

Good luck on your buds! Try some alfalfa tea to promote more basals. It's worked really well for me.

I've had my Eden since 2012. I grew it in a pot for about a year, maybe 2 and then got it in the ground. Mine is large and healthy, but I've gotten maybe 10-15 blooms on it since I've had it. Each spring it gives me a handful of flowers. They are beautiful but I'm starting to loose patience. Last year, on her 5th year, she had her largest flush, about 7 blooms. I'm disappointed but I cant bring myself to remove her since I've waited this long hoping every year will be her year.

Mine is own root from Heirloom Roses before their prices got crazy. I paid $16 for her as a band, but alas very little blooms. :(

SoFl Rose, I also got Eden from Heirloom, but I planted mine in 2014. Last summer I let it grow wild -- it is turning into a massive bush at this point, rather than a trained climber. We had a really dry summer (hot for Seattle, but probably nothing like what you get in Florida) and my Eden is in full sun for most of the day. Apparently it enjoyed those conditions, because it bloomed pretty much all summer. This is the first year that it has done that (in previous years it either bloomed once in Spring, or did two annual flushes). I wonder if the Florida weather isn't right for this rose.

None of my Edens (2 grafted, 1 own root) bloomed except for in the spring this year. My little OR White Eden also did the same thing. So far they are all looking fairly Diva-ish lol.

May be it’s a good idea to plant a Pretty in Pink Eden next to your Eden. I know PIPE repeats pretty well, and blooms last for a long time. :-) I love PIPE more than Eden due to its repeating ability.

I may have to get a few more PIPEs I put one in the ground on the side of the house and it does bloom much more than the regular Eden divas. I have it in a spot where I put a bunch of Kordes roses in the ground right by the dryer vent! It likes it there and so do the Kordes roses- getting that extra blast of heat and humidity. I thought it might kill them but its working out.

Sultry_Jasmine_nights: do you have any pics and updates on your Pretty in Pink Eden??? This is one have had my eye on ever since it came out. I would love to hear how it’s doing for you and how the repeat has been.

The place where I put my PIPE is now in deep shade due to a tree that grew over that area so it hasn't done anything lately. It did put out a few long canes trying to get out to more sun lol. I need to move it, I meant to last spring but got busy with other things.

I will probably place it in front of the bananas that are behind my veggie garden where its sunny and can sprawl on the fenceline.

I am on 4 acres but most is shaded from huge trees, so it can be challenging finding sunny spots for my roses.

Sorry I can't be of more help on the repeat. When I first planted it and it got more sun, it repeated pretty good, once established.

The flowers are similar to Edens but darker pink and can sometimes put out a light pink or half light pink/half dark pink (bicolored) bloom.

I know Edmunds carries it bareroot.
