toronado, I'm in shock! 8-o We do have a bunch of them in this area, though I only see them in the distance and recognize the fall color. pitimpinai, years ago when I worked in Chicago, there was a small one just around the corner from where I worked, in front of a co-worker's parents' house. I think they got it through a City program where homeowners could choose from several different types of (allegedly-appropriate) trees, and the City would plant one in the parking strip.

My front loaders don't protrude in front of a window, but the window is close (I planned it that way). However, I need a window covering anyway (it's the only one in the house) because I almost got caught topless by the oil guy one day (oil fill cap is right outside that window). I prefer to think "almost", it might have been "actually caught". So, I have cafe curtains there now. The window at issue is next to the washer (so, if the washer was deeper it would cover part of the window). Is this a front window, side window, rear window? You could just do a shutter or cafe curtain to hide it from outside. I have back issues, so I like my pedestals. I assume the window at issue is behind the washer and dryer?

Like pdxgal, I've had my fridge and wall ovens next to each other for 20 years with no problem. I, too, don't want to change my electrical service for those appliances, so the new ones will occupy the same positions. That said, you should be sure to e-mail customer service of the company that manufactures your new refrigerator and ask what their policy is regarding ovens and refrigerators next to each other. GE customer service told me it would void the refrigerator warranty. KA customer service told me the warranty would still be in effect, but they recommended 3 inches between the appliances if it was possible. I am going with the KA built-in side-by-side, and I have their answer IN WRITING (love e-mail!) regarding this appliance issue. FYI: When I asked GE customer service by telephone whether their policy was "carved in stone", they said yes. But their own marketing brochures have at least two photographs where their ovens and fridges are right next to each other!

Oh thanks Kudzu9, but you don't need to bump this unless it is happening to others and you want an answer. My post eventually got posted. It was weird though, my post wouldn't show up for a long time, like over 10 minutes. I kept trying to post it, and it would keep disappearing. I don't know why, so I posted this thread to ask if anyone knew what was going on. Its not an issue now, but it has happened before to me and it is strange.
