Blooming today, 3/30/10
Comments (7)Very nice. I lost my Star Magnolia to the last ice storm. It never returned. My hellebores have never bloomed but are spreading. I still have hopes. From Gardening 2010 Right next to it is brunnera 'Jack Frost' just beginning and the tulips in the same bed are budded out. They are pale lemon. I hope they can make it into bloom at the same time. I just found out my buxus koreana 'Wintergreen' is very fragrant in bloom. The bloom is insignificant but the fragrance is not! I opened the back door and was immediately aware of a new wonderful odor...it was the Wintergreen. I am very pleased about that. I guess it wasn't old enough to bloom until now. Finally one little clump of grape hyacinth has appeared and the Erlicheer daffs have begun to open. They were hurt more by the freezes than anything because they send up green leaves way before bloom. They are very fragrant. All the pics are clickables....See MoreDifferent varieties of Adenium Arabicum?
Comments (5)That first plant is going to give you problems in that pot. It will fill it up with root mass easily and you will not be able to remove it when it starts suffering from being pot-bound. They're nice pots, you probably will prefer not to have to break them. Caudiciforms, especially fast growers like adeniums, are better grown in pots that are narrower at the bottom. I also suggest potting them high on the pot so you don't have a void that fills up with humidity. You can still use the nice pots as planters though. Plant the adeniums in plastic nursery pots instead and then just plop them into the decorative pots. And make sure everything has drainage holes, even those stone (?) pots and yes, even if they are being used as planters. Pagan...See MoreCamellia with 3 different blooms, propagation
Comments (4)I have found a site that gives more info. (http://socalcamelliasociety.org/?p=196) I think the parent plant is Betty Sheffield and it says that the flowers are not stable. It is so interesting that I will still use any cuttings that root. I don't know what is up today but I tried to post pictures 3 times and they never came thru....See MoreA few blooms today - 3rd try...
Comments (20)All this talk about Lambertson daylilies got me to wondering how many I had and how they have done here. I know all of the hybrydizers of every plant I own but haven’t paid much attention since I’m not doing any crosses/ hybridizing. I have had Orchid Octopus for several years, planted in a warmer? place for it here but it was really small this spring, moved it to a sunnier spot. I got Silky Skies as a bonus two years ago, it was in a warmer? place and it shrunk this season too, it also got moved to sunnier spot this spring. I bought a single fan of Martian Moons this spring, it’s is a sunny spot, hasn’t bloomed yet. Now I’m wondering if I should just chalk these all up as goners, just disappointing. Sherry...See MoreJeannies_Garden (Tx 9a)
