So I'm horrible at color....but what I want to know is what is that beautiful texture on the antique gold walls?

What colour is your kitchen? What kind of colours do you like, more cool colours or more warm colours? Do you like a more traditional style or more modern style? What flooring?

Two colours I came to my mind would be an ivory or cream or a warm green.

Sumac, that is the plaster texture we had done when we built the house in 1979. A few years ago a pro painter friend of DD's husband came in and did the faux finish. The base is Sherwin Williams Kilim Beige. The glaze is SW Hopsack, which is on the same strip as Kilim Beige, and whatever it is they use for a glazing medium. I love it. I still have the glaze and have been assured that it can be copied on the hall wall after the remodel.

robo, this is our kitchen now. We're reusing the existing cabinets and granite and adding an island probably in an antique white with blackish granite. So, we have predominately warm colors. I love the greens, but they just won't work with out granite,, which is Juperana Palamino, so I think ivory or cream would be the best. I just don't know which colors to start with. Colors that aren't on the green or pink side. The room now is SW Kilim Beige, which works, but I really want to try something different and maybe a bit brighter.D

Revere Pewter looked like battleship gray in my house, when I tested it in my light filled dining room. BM Grant Beige will work with your cabinets and might work with your granite. The only way to know, is to buy a quart a do several test swatches in the actual room.

Sounds to me like they're both pushing a popular color, assuming that because "everyone else" likes it you will too. (I'd guess Revere Pewter's popularity owes a lot to this forum, btw. Was BM concerned when Gardenweb twas absorbed by Houzz? :)

Reminds me of when a number of workmen on our home earnestly tried to explain standard choices I should make, instead of what I asked for. They meant well and honestly thought because they were common local choices they were the right ones.

I really don't see gray anywhere near that gold, and the gold looks wonderful.

Your pictures are a little dark so it is hard for me to see undertones. If you like Revere Pewter and think it might work, I would get a sample pot, paint a big piece of poster board and move it around to see how it looks. I think it is probably too cool to work with your gold but It's really hard to judge using a small photo.

If you really just do not like it, diplomatically tell the painter and the paint store guy that they are not living in your house and they aren't paying for the job so they don't get to decide which color to use.

I am an artist and those two tones do NOT work at all with each other. Don't do it.

Please take a look at this creamy tone, buy a sample and try it against the living room tone. It's my go to paint for a light bright warm feeling. Mascarpone

Thanks everyone. For a while I thought maybe there was something I wasn't seeing. I did get a sample of Revere Pewter and in the room it looks blue and looks terrible with the gold. I just don't know what they were thinking. Yayagal I will try Mascarpone. What's in my mind is a bright cream with yellow (but not too yellow) or gold undertones. The room has large windows, but they face north. Does anyone have any other suggestions on paint colors to try? I'm big on making color sample boards to hang and look all during the day and night.

Most Northern light tends to be somewhat grayish/cool in tone.

I have warm ivory walls with cool white trim. That trim looks really different on the North-facing windows compared to the East- and South-facing windows on the same floor.

Revere Pewter must be what they recommend to everyone! I went to BM on two different occasions and both times...revere pewter was suggested. What about BM gentle cream?

Divine White is the lightest color on the Kilm Beige strip. It might work.

I used BM monterey white in my last house and it is a nice creamy color. It does tend to change a lot depending on the light. This is not my house :)

Gold works with silver:) One needs to be very cautious applying both to big surfaces though..they shouldn't be used equally I think, one should be an accent to other. Besides, Revere Pewter doesn't read enough silver to me..I love the color, I love warm grays in general, but in my place it didn't work at all, and no color can be a right recipe for just any room. Every room is different, every light is different, and I'd test colors myself instead of taking obviously erm..not too-profound advice. As you're going to do..right decision believe me.

Cream will work ...should work-you'll have to try several my guess is..might be very pretty with Northern light..a bit warm white not too yellow..

if you want something bolder though-look into purples:) Depends of course on the size of the space, cabinet colors..what are they? sorry if you wrote and i missed it

or going lighter than that-something with a lilac hint to it?,,

Also-a bit golden-ish greens. Chartreuse?

And-very theoretically-navy..or teal..but it really depends on how far you're willing to take it

Your gold is also textured..will other walls get the same texture? I have a feeling it matters. A lot.
