OK Help and answers needed NOW..!!!!!!!!!...PLEASE!!!

I have a female BB who lays 3 eggs then eats them...!! To Me ,this isn't normal or is it??? The first time she laid 3 eggs,then each day they seemed to disappear...Since, We have cameras in the nest boxes,we tried to see what was going on....the next nesting, She laid 3 eggs and We were able to capture what was going on...She was eating the eggs....!! We have it on film so it is true,I am not kidding about this...!!No snake etc...or we would have it on film....I have been Feeding and watching BB's for over 15yrs. and this id the first time I have seen this happen....If she builds another nest and does the same thing, I don't know what to do...I usually have at least between 9-10 fledglings every year but I ma not hopeful this year...Someone please help with any ideas or answers as to what is going on...Many Thanks,Mary Ann

Gosh. I wish I could help. The only thing I wonder is: is it a separate female laying the eggs from the one eating them? Are you sure it's the same female? Have you googled it? I wonder if she feels the need for more calcium, but then she may have a problem laying them? The only other suggestion I have is to go to bluebirdnutcafe.com & ask there. There are tons of experienced bluebirders on that site that have helped me. I sure hope someone can help you!

Yes, I have watched with our camera system and itis the same female...She does the same thing,builds a nest,makes the egg cup while spreading her wings and wiggling down at the same time,then she lays 3 eggs and seems like she is sitting on them but every once in awhile she does the wing flapping on them like she is making that egg cup,then after doing that for a day or two ,we have actually watched her eat them ,all 3 eggs..!! Now, she is in the progress of building her 3rd nest...I am completely confused with this behavior....do you think I should close up my 2 nest boxes for awhile and see if i can attract a new female??This is so heart-breaking for me...I tried getting on the bluebirdnut.cafe and i can't get on it so I am here looking for help...Thank You for responding,I really apprciate more thanever..!!!

HI Shawn, Thanks, I was wondering how long they took from seed. One of my cuttings has a Y. The plants look healthy, but they haven't bloomed. I had one bloom and as soon as it did, it was determined that it had to be moved! (Dangit, LOL) None have bloomed since then. Anyway, I just got : betty marshall, Mrs. Chambers, cupids blush and jamaican yellow. I am so excited, I looked at pics in someones posting and I really want mine to bloom like that! Hi, I am a newbie and have been collecting BST eggs on my fennel since July. I have raised them inside and so far have released 51. If I were you, I would bring them all inside and raise them. They eat a lot in their last instar, so be prepared to have enough food for them. It has been a joy for me to raise these beauties, and my cats are loving them too. I purchased butterfly pavilions from ShadyOaks Butterfly farm in Florida, but you can use almost any container to put them in, as long as they have enough space to hang when they eclose to dry their wings. Do not overcrowd them. The most I have put in one pavilion has been 14, but I could easily have put in close to 20 in each one with no problems. If you are near a Whole Foods in Dallas, I would suggest you purchase some curly parsley and Dill, as well as the fennel they are eating now. Whole Foods does not spray their organic produce, and I have had no problems with mine eating it. Mine have gotten so fat and healthy. Mine have been eating all three and they like a variety, and these are the host plants for BST. Good luck and keep us posted. Betty

The edge is finished. It's just an eased edge...painted maple top. What is bothering my eye is the top extends over the edge of the cabinets that form the base of the seat. I think the top might look better if it was flush with the cabinets and didn't extend over. You expect a top of a bookcase to extend over the edge of the base a little...but I didn't expect the top of the seat to extend over the edge because it's a seat. Make this makes better sense. The finished edge won't change. Thanks.

@clueless, there is actually 42" between the counter and the pantry wall. And we're doing bypass doors, specifically so I don't have to move people sitting there to open the pantry. The hall alongside the bathroom is 40". There are an additional 6" between the wall and appliances once you get past the bathroom. So with a 10" deep shelf, it would still leave plenty of room to pass. It's not a through way, just in and out for primarily me. However, we do plan to live here forever, so storage here will be modular or freestanding so we can change it easily as our requirements change. Like finally having both girls grown out of Girl Scouts so I can retire from my post as "assistant troop leader in charge of pretty much everything creative" and get rid of troop craft supplies. This is the only really usable storage we have on the ground floor other than kitchen cabinets and the bathroom vanity. We do have a closet under the stairs, but the configuration of the walls in there makes it unbelievably bad. That's a project for another time. Not using it is not an option

Thanks so much...The 3rd nest is built,now I am waiting to see what happens next...I am wondering if she has another nest somewhere and is busy there.She doesn't seem to be around too much lately,just checks in now and then,leaves but if another bird such as tree swallows come around both the male and female appear and chase them away... This is by far the strangest Blue Bird Season I have ever encountered....I just have a feeling this will be My very first season of not having any Blue Bird Babies..!! Thanks, and I will keep you posted also....
