Kitchen counter top question

I have a galley style kitchen. I am going to lower one of the walls to counter top height so it can cover the back of the cabinets and help support the over hang.
Here is my problem. I an choosing between a gas cooktop installed in a cutout of the counter top or a slide in range, installed in a cutout. I am thinking that the slide in range is a deep enough cut that it would make the overhang structurally impossible.

I have attached a crappy picture to further confuse everyone.
